Great point.

Didn't the coyote mustangs and, to a much greater extent, the Boss 302 (remember the Laguna Seca trim?) put a serious hurt on all this "prestige" and "heritage" of the m3?

What about the value of the 1LE Camaro? Z/28 Camaro?

Sounds good to me. M division has lost it's way after the 1M if you ask me, so I'll look forward to anything Hyundai has to bring. Will I feel cool…maybe not but if it drives like my 1M then I'll be all smiles.

I'm more interested in their 400hp twin turbo v6 coupe supposed to be coming out next year. Hatch backs don't do it for me

I can see what is going to happen now.

The 'N' car buyers are going to buy the 'M' trunk badges from BMWs. They will then chop off the last part of the '|'. Then they will have a BMW 'N'.

Those bastids!!!

Well Biermann is no joke. I can see Hyundai N being very successful if he does what he wants with the sub-brand. That said, I test drove a top of the line Genesis Coupe at the Autoshow a couple years back and I was hugely disappointed. It was terribly slow for having over 300hp, the car felt very heavy with way too much understeer, and the interior materials and craftsmanship was hugely lacking. That's 3 strikes for engine performance, handling, and fit/finish.

Not everyone wants their m3 to be a day to day car.

It was not too long ago that mustangs were leagues behind the m3's in terms of performance, now, the gt350, not only is speculated to surpass the m3 in performance, it looks awesome and is more affordable. Just wait a few more years and perhaps, Ford will have another better day-to-day car. The have already done so much in such a short amount of time.

You have to give ford credit and you have to give Hyundai credit too. Hyundai has shaped up their reputation in the past 10 years and makes some solid reliable offerings and backs them with a solid warranty.

With the right team and resources they can absolutely make a splash with this car.
I agree. Ford has made quite a good impression on as far as performance is concerned. And Hyundai also. But they're trying to touch in a market that is totally saturated with a brand like M, AMG, Audi RS etc.. This isn't an Elantra competing with a civic. It's a whole different ball game. I mean hey, the genesis coupe isn't a bad car but I would never buy one over a 335 or even a mustang for that matter.

Come on people, nothing for German manufacturers to worry about. Mercs, audis bmw and Porsche are in the same class (prestige quality made sports cars). The Koreans are actually trying to target the Japanese market, they've already taken a huge piece of the pie in the small car and medium segments and taxis in Asia. Now they are trying to have something up against toyotas TRD, Nissans Nismo, Mazdas Mps, Mitsubishis Ralliart, Subarus Sti, Hondas Type R, etc... The Japanese have been dominating the tuning world market for turbocharged cars since the 80s and have recorded wins in rallying, Le Mans, indycar etc... That's their biggest threat. It would take a good 2 decades of pumping money into their sports brand and performance arms on top of proven successes in Motorsport before anyone can take them seriously. The GTRs, Supras, Evo, WRX, RX7, and NSX are respected today because of how well the Japanese built them and the successes they had in Motorsport, and their popularity with tuners and collectors.

Im sure they'll be those that don't mind buying a Hyundai "N".. but lets be real here, just like the Equus never even came close to the S-Class/7 Series/A8 class of cars even though it was meant to, N will never come close to M either.

I think they may take out a chunk of Mazda or Ford sales, really. For the $20-30k segment, there really is only those two, and they are front engined, family oriented cars that happen to drive well. If Big H II can provide rear-drive sporty cars at that price point, it really is an unfilled niche. I mean BMW does provide the 320i and the 228i but kitted properly with good seats and a decent suspension, you're looking at least $36k....

you can't comment on understeer or handling at all for that matter on a test drive. that's not even close to the limit. heck my m3 with kw cs understeer at high speeds unless I intentionally kick the tail out with the throttle so what point are you making?

lot of ppl on here seem to be brand whores and equate their status or driving skill to the attributes of the car.

I bet me in that hyundai n will be lapping 90% of you, actually probably 99% of you who ridicule that car, on a track. some people just don't get it. Probably wondering what mods were on the car too. it's stock! even more laughs then.

Stop the entitled douchebaggery it's pathetic.

Anyone who thinks Hyundai's N brand launch is a joke is going to be sorely mistaken. Watch the documentary Adrenalin, and you will note that Albert Biermann lived, ate, and breathed M. Why would a guy like this, who so passionately talked on the documentary and is a part of BMW history at this stage of his career quit and move to Korea? The guy was likely pissed, and who could blame him as everything he ever stood for was dismantled by corporate. Look at the interviews he gave on the M4...completely looked like he wasn't into it at all and was going through the motions. I mentioned this in a post and everyone on M4 board laughed at me, and sure enough he was gone within two months.

He was likely paid a lot of money to make things happen and Hyundai and with the decades of know-how I have no doubt he will create a division to be reckoned with. If that passion gets channeled into building real performance cars and he isn't hamstrung by corporate, those cars that you laugh at may be passing you on the track in a few years not to mention will probably be a blast to drive. If Ford and GM can do it, with someone like him on board, betting against success is probably a loser's name.

So... They couldn't pick another letter, a different color scheme.

Sometimes I am just amazed of the lack of originality from some people... But a brand? I mean, from the whole world, human ingenuity and ... Ok, even google, this is what they came up with?

Anyway, the choice was idiotic, N being the leter that has in general a negative conotation... No, Nicht, Nein, Null, Nothing, Nobody.... Nevermind..

I hate plagiators, and regardless what some are saying or how good the car might get (Hyundai is still a joke as a car manufacturer), I will never put my money in a plagiator's pocket.

"N"ever.
