Interesting, that fix only keys the sprocket to the hub, it doesn't key the hub to the crank though...

Agreed, just a good shot of how it all goes together and why the slip in first place. Can't understand why not keyed from the factory? I just rebuilt a Honda J series engine and they key but use a rubber belt as most foreign mfg do. Funny as chain is stronger yet the put a weak link with press fit sprocket? Would love to know exactly why it can't be that much quicker on the assembly line.

Not sure what to say really......

They have drilled three holes into the timing sprocket which is already weak and now has three fracture points.

I have seen a similar fix done with two holes drilled in the timing sprocket and the timing sprocket cracked from the drill hole.

I'm still trying to get info from Litchfield on their hub fix, but their customer service get's a resounding zero.

Two emails and one phone call, no reply.

Strange, I rang twice last week and spoke to someone every time and got answers to my questions.

Ricky - LLF on YT - had his m4 Comp upgraded by Peter at Pure Turbos EU - one of LLF YT vlogs talks about crank hub installed wo any engine removal or too many drilled holes.

Yep, they fit a one piece Gintani crank hub and key it to the crank. It is going no where.

Much better than drilling three holes in the already weak OEM timing sprocket.

The timing OEM timing sprocket is basically made from pressed metal powder so Im told. Cannot remember the name of the process, but not the best idea to drill it!

Jason,

I am guessing Litchfield's method of fitting their crank hub to your M2C didn't involve additional drilling?

It's so so tempting, but I think I will stick with stock power for the time being and do a few track days. If/when I do this I need to fully commit and prepare my mind for the fact I will be losing my warranty if something goes wrong. Knowing me though.....it will happen

Hello mate,

I have just spoke to Iain at Litchfield. Their crank hub kit is now sorted. It is just shy of £1200 inc VAT fitted.

They are fitting one to an M4 as we speak.

Doesn't the car normally hit limp mode and no damage done? I thought valve contact was extremely rare in SCH scenarios? I'll ask a big dealer here to see what they have seen.

Valve/Piston is very rare. The sensors do a good job at stopping things when the timing/crank hub goes.

That seems reasonable imo when i convert to AUD for the item + fitted. Do you know when we will see pictures and install guide of the item as from your posts it sounds a little different from other offerings.

2/3 the price of ARPerformance / VTT offering - fair play to Litchfield

Far as Im aware there will be no install guide, only they will fit their crank hub kit. Something you would need to ask them directly if you want to buy just the kit but Im sure they are not just selling the kit.

They know this job inside out and can fit it in 11hrs. Not 20hrs like other vendors charge. Even a BMW master tech fitted my OEM hub in 11hrs prior to me having the Litchfield one fitted. So it does amuse me when others charge 20hrs.

Full details will be on their website shortly.

Thanks!

That's a fair price for sure, even assuming 10hrs labour, the hub kit, parts and consumables.. all for £1000+VAT!

Just getting it there is the issue - I see you used their trailer service? I'd have to go for that as it's just not practical to get it there any other way.

Yes mate, you can arrange with them to collect and drop back your car. It comes back spotless too.
