Pros:
- It definitely looks better IMO.
- The shifts feel more precise, slight rubbery feeling is all but gone.

Cons:
- It's expensive.
- It feels very small, too small compared to the stock steering wheel. I can’t even imagine having it paired with the super thick CS wheel.
- The shift effort is increased, but not by much.
- The knob just feels less friendly. The harder top edges are definitely felt during the shift action, and so are the materials. Resting my hand on it, even for a few moments is no longer an option because of the feel.

Hard to explain why I still like it, but I do. I think I'll keep it for a few weeks just to see if I get used to it. My goal is to figure out that if it were a no-cost option, would I keep it?

We'll see.
Hello,
did you end up keeping it?

Yeah, I kept it, and have gotten used to it, even though it still feels unfriendly, for lack of a better word (I wish it was leather wrapped and a bit heavier). I don't think I could go back to the stock knob because of how rubbery it makes the trans feel. I mean, I would have never, ever believed anyone that said changing the shift knob alone would completely change the feel of the shift to much more direct, but I'll be damned, it certainly did.

Thank you. I ordered one and am curious how it feels.
Many of these seem to peel of the Alcanatara over time.

I haven't experienced that, but my car is a $75K garage ornament most of the time.

Awesome write-up on the install! Does anyone have the knob only part number handy?

Thanks.

BMW does not sell the knob by itself, it always comes affixed to the boot.

Quick 1.5 year update on this. Definitely love this mod, shift action is improved dramatically, and there is no discernable wear on the knob. This mod was a win/win for me.
