Red is terrible, my buddy drinks it on hot days with Ginger ale. I can't do it.
Red is horrible. I don't know anyone who would want to drink it lol.

My buddy gave me a bottle of it about 10 years ago, I won't even open it. I also asked him about he age statement for Double Black and he thought it might be 10 but wasn't 100% sure.

For me, the relevant issue that does separate lesser blends from the best of them is whether they have a lot of grain whisky (column still produced). I think that Compass Box is a vatted malt - a blend exclusively made w/different single malts (I heard theat JW Green was also one of these). There are also some blends that specify a higher percentage of single malt (IIRC, Teachers is one of these, perhaps also the Grouse?). Personally I like the variety of single malts, so I haven't really explored blends, but most of the bigger brands have very nice high-end versions. I've had Ballantines 12 and 18 year old, both very nice (Ballantines is my go-to blend, for nostalgic reasons). I'm also intrigued by some of the historical recreations, like the Shackelton blend, or some of the prohibition-era recreations; at some point I'm probably going to try them.

Hey guys, while I don't drink, I came up with an invention. The drawing below is what I submitted to the patent office. Do you guys think it will "take off"?

@Murf993 I had to do some grocery shopping today and grabbed a bottle of Chivas Regal 12. Have not had it in a few years. I saw Double Black but it was behind a glass case and I did not want to talk to anyone to ask to open it, wanted to be in and out lol. What's your take on Chivas?

I have two bottles of it, I like it it's a good whisk(e)y and it's affordable to, and the bottle has the shape of the small of a woman's back. I had some Jim Beam Distillers Select earlier.....one of my favourite's.

Cheers.

Haha, agree on the bottle

Not a fan of Jim Beam personally, have had it a few times and just couldn't enjoy it, even mixed with a bit of Coke, just not my type of whiskey. Maybe it was the bottom barrel Jim Beam.

Well it is Friday, so after a long week of work will finally get to relax a bit and drink a few drams tonight. Looking forward to it.

Cheers.

Chivas Regal and Macallan 12 were what got me into whiskey this past November. Both smooth and just very nice. Once I run low on what I have I'll buy those along with a JW Black.

The Distillers Select is about $200 US a bottle, I wouldn't mix it but that's just me. If you get a chance give it a try because it is quite something. I like it much better than any of the Pappy.

If you like Mac... Mac 12 will be a straight sherry... the double cask 12 will be a mix of american sherry and euro sherry... and the tc12 will be euro sherry, amer sherry and amer bourbon... they get lighter the more casks you add... but if you ask me TC15 is the winner by far, its just a perfect blend.

FWIW... I would go to a club like BJ's, there you can still buy it for $105... you do not need a membership to buy liqour. Yeah its exp, but you will not regret your decision.

But there will be a tear in your eye as you pour the last dram into a glass.

I have a few dozen bottles that are near the end and I don't have the heart to finish them. Or the funds to replace them right now.

Bite the bullet and do it. If they sit too long they turn stale (unless you use Argon). Better to run out while enjoying them, rather than being disappointed in a few months.
You could try mixing them into your own solera.

Cognac and rums are my usual go to's, but I enjoy whiskeys from time to time as well.

Been chipping away at these smooth drinks with some fellas from work this weekend.

Enjoy and stay safe, all!

If you do, you can only “wash” them with sweat and rye.

I'm led to believe that Kentucky Straight Bourbon must be matured in brand new barrels. So there must be a hell of a lot of used barrels out there waiting to be filled with something else.
