Yes. I’m running with that setting now, and I think it’s way better than the F82_GTS option.

F82_GTS lets you go more sideways, but I also found that it really didn’t like going around tight highway on / off ramp that turn more than 90 degrees. The traction control light would come on in those situations at much lower speed than stock, and way before sliding. I’m not sure if this was to do with the M2 being shorter than the M4 and the sensors interpreting data wrong, but but the F87_GTS option gives you the best of both and I’d thoroughly recommend it.

I do think you need to be on a later I-Step. I updated so that I could get full screen car play anyway, and the F87_GTS option was a new option I was happy to have afterwards!

Hi Nezil,

Interesting to hear - I'll give this a go.

Have you also coded your diff (ghas)? If so which setting do you roll with?

Thanks.

This was asked years ago but never answered (so far as I could tell), so I'll ask it again. I'd love to hear a back to back to back analysis of OEM vs CS vs GTS steering and diff experiences. Once I get my car, I'll probably play with each but since I'm stuck only *thinking* about the car, I need to give my mind something to do...

Now I have a question and need some clarification:

1) Is my interpretation of the following correct:

C_Laenderkennung: this thing changes the country of origin of the MDM mode, so ECE would make mdm behave like european, and you can also change it to NA.

C_Variante_Fahrzeug_e: This function changes the characteristics of MDM so gts mdm, f87 cs mdm etc.

The two features above combined together can change it to something like EURO gts mdm, or NA gts mdm. With the Euro or NA coming from C_Laenderkennung adjustments, and the gts mdm coming from C_Variante_Fahrzeug_e adjusments.

2) Has anyone managed to code the LSD (GHAS)?

Thanks

Hi.

Re 1 that is correct!

Re 2, yes you can do that. Funnily enough I looked at this earlier in esys. It's not really clear what advantages it would give, so I've held off for now. I have read that the lsd low speed whir is removed.

I have not updated my ISTEP in 18 months but I did turn on full screen CarPlay since then. I cannot imagine the CarPlay update changed anything related to my DSC module.

I can see the f87gts option under 4.31.32 of psdzdata. Which version of psdzdata are you using with e-sys?

No, I didn't try that, actually wasn't aware that it was a change that I could make. Things seem great as is though, so I don't have a mad desire to go and test it.

Nezil which ISTEP are you running?
I did a full I-Step update to prepare for Full Screen CarPlay a few months back, October to be precise. I went from F020 17-11-530 (NBTevo M), which I think is what I was updated to shortly after buying the car because of the LCI dash recall, to F020 19-07-539 (NBTevo R) for FullScreen CarPlay compatibility. I think that was the latest at the time.

Looking back on my notes from that time, it took 49 minutes for the update to complete.

I've just taken a look in E-Sys again, and there is also an F87_CS option.

I have:
  • F87_GTS
  • F80
  • F80_CP
  • F80_CRT
  • F80_SoMo3
  • F82
  • F82_CP
  • F82_GTS
  • F82_MS
  • F82_SoMo2
  • F83
  • F83_CP
  • F87
  • F87_CS
  • Fxx
In addition, for steering, I'm currently using F87CS, but have the following options:
  • F87CS
  • F80
  • F83
  • F87
  • F82GTS
  • F80/F82/F83_rep
  • Veh7
  • Veh8
  • Veh9
  • Veh10
The steering feel with the Aluminium strut brace and F87CS is much better than stock was.

Does F87CS or F87GTS provide the most slip in MDM?

I’ve not tried F87_CS, only F87_GTS, but F87_GTS is great.

It sounds like CS is newer, so maybe it’s been refined further than GTS? No idea.

Also, I tried F87CS steering back in 2018 and didn’t care for it much: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=20 Do you think it’s been changed/updated since then?

It depends on your definition of refined. The stock DSC for the M2 could have been updated and more 'refined', but now allow less slip. If slip, with a safety net is what you want, then the best combination used to be Euro F82_GTS, but F87_GTS improves on that. The GTS was always more track focussed than CS wasn't it? I'd have thought the GTS would be better, but give it a try... it's not a difficult thing to change.

It may have been, I'm not sure. I find it funny that a lot of people wonder if things changed through the years... you can see! Use E-Sys to calculate an I-Step update for you and some modules don't get an update. I went from 17-11 to 19-07 and the DME didn't get an update, for example. Anyone who claims that there was a change to the engine performance is wrong, but there might of course have been updates before 17-11.

So if you calculate an I-Step update to the latest (or 19-07) from your current I-Step, you'll see if there are any EPS updates.

I personally didn't like the gts steering feel, to me it felt like the typical bmw EPS settings where they think sporty=heavy. So the gts steering setting felt overly heavy and that meant when you were turning it feels like the wheel is fighting you to get back to center which I hate. This also makes the center of the wheel feel dead or numb.

F87CS feels the most natural and doesn't have the dead spot in the middle or center seeking feeling at all times, but I do wish it was 15-25% heavier.

Not trying to be dense, I’m pretty good on a PC and with some programming. Just not sure where to look.

Edit: Looks like the link Tano provided previously is the place to go. I previously saw the post was from 2017, but I’m seeing the thread is updated. I’ll give it a shot.

Bimmerfest is really the better forum for coding and flashing. The people to look for are Almaretto and Seansheriden.

There are stickies on that forum with details of where to get files and how to install and use them.
