M2 CS or M3 CS?

So I’m looking for something new, currently driving a F80 M3 with IPE exhaust and Bootmod3 stage 1. Still happy but somehow looking for something else..

Today went over to the BMW dealer, they have a M2 CS in stock and get a 20% discount on the price for trading in the M3. Have to say the M2 really looks amazing and with the ceramic brakes and CS hood it’s really cool. Only there is one thing, tomorrow I will take a look at a M3 CS 2019 with 10dkm and 30k cheaper than the M2.

The new M3 off course is coming end of this year with a CS and probably a GTS I guess. And the new M2 will probably be released in 2022 or so I guess? I already have drivin the first M2 two times and the F80 M3 also two times, the M3 always felt more M to me because of the interior and driving but with this M2 CS I think that the real M feeling is not missing at all anymore.

So, yes what to do? Just looking at the difference in price the M3 is maybe a better option as financial as fun, but M2 CS is also special and maybe the last one with rear wheel drive and a 6 cilinder?

I think it really depends on why you want the car; if you need the 4 doors and extra room, etc. These are very different cars.

M2cs if you want something small & nimble
M3cs if you're into land yachts and more luxury.

IMHO all 4 doors must perish

M3CS even if it was more expensive. Most beautiful car BMW has ever made with a nearly perfect spec. Love the M2CS, but the M3CS just has a place in my heart.

Powertrain, dynamic and dimension aside:

The M2 CS and M3/4 CS are pretty much the same, in terms of carbon add-ons, technology & interior, stock for stock.

Worth noting that:
1. Although being short in wheel base, the F87 has a much taller stance and higher seating position than the F80/82, meaning a less coupe feel and a more hatchback feel.
2. The F87CS, like the F87C, has the braking air duct, which helps track endurance.
3. The MP Carbon fender for the F87 is gorgeous, and is not available to any other M model to my knowledge. Carbon trunk, fully painted, is also worthing considering.
4. F82 CS comes with the stunning OLED rear light.
5. F80/82 have way better color options (rock grey, SMB).

In the long run, the F87CS will be a much better value, due to its purer M spirit and rarity.
But F80/82 is a more grown M car (less boy race feel) that's easier to live with day to day.

a good friend has bought new M2, M2 competition, M3 CS, M2 competition again ... and in his opinion the M3 CS is very uncomfortable and noisy.

It is not a suitable car for the day to day

I would get the M2 CS since it is smaller and probably more fun. Although the M3 CS is probably faster with more torque. Both should depreciate the same, although I think the M2 CS has a chance in being thought of years from now as the better car.

the lack of armrests in the M3CS is a PITA.

You should ask to test drive both on the same day. Usually the test drive tells you what car is for you.

There's really no comparison.

M2CS is a proper sports coupe that comes in a manual. M3CS doesn't come in manual and already looks a lot more dated IMO. Total bust IMO.

M3CS went under sticker because of how disappointing it was. They were literally sitting on lots with dealers begging for people to take them off their hands. The story with M2CS will be the complete opposite; likely at or over sticker and will sell out instantly.

M2CS will also appreciate in value. I know this market well after nearly two decades of driving ///M models. In 5-10 years, the M2CS will be what the 1M is today, times 2.

I think you are right 19x as I think the M2 CS could hold its value like the 1M. This makes me nervous to see if I can get an allocation as hopefully allocations come out in August.

Everyone is looking for the next 1M. The 1M was a true one-off that enthusiasts decided was special. . . indeed it was.

The M2CS is entrenched in the shadow of the M2C . . . the latter decidedly special according to enthusiasts, while the former advertised to be special by BMW. Enthusiasts decide what is special, not BMW.

A decade from now the M2CS will be as obsolete as the M2C, and the latter readily available if anyone desires to own one or the other. Whatever minimal difference exists between the M2C and M2CS today will have all but disappeared when both are obsolete in a decade.

The 1M was introduced alone and remains alone. One of a kind. By contrast, if the F87 M2C is not enough to quench your thirst, the G87 M2C (and presumably M2CS) will be produced hot on the F87 tail.

Did BMW develop the M3CS and advertise it as being 'less special' than the M3C? Hell no! Enthusiasts decided which of the two was 'more special.' For the record, I have no doubt the M2CS is an exceptional vehicle . . . just not 'that special' compared to the M3, apparently.
