Thumbs up

Hi All,

I'm a long-term lurker, but I've had my M2 since February. I've been enjoying the car since getting the RIS done, but now that there are a few more miles on the clock I had the urge to seek out a bit more power.

After a bit of research on the various options, I settled for a Bootmod3 flash. I liked the idea of being able to return to stock at any point and the ability to do this myself without removing the DME, or adding to the DME flash counter sealed the deal.

The process of flashing the DME could not be simpler, the BM3 software is by far the best I've seen. The dash and iDrive system go a bit crazy with errors and warnings during the update, which was expected having read up and watched every YouTube video on the subject.

As I have no bolt on mods (yet) other than the MPE I went for the Stage 1 98 RON map, as recommended. The difference is night and day, I love it!

I also did the GTS DCT flash, which is very different from the stock DCT software. The jury is still out as to whether it will remain, but it's easy enough to flash back to stock if I decide against it.

Great work PTF!

Sounds good Kenny, saw your post on cutters too.
Tempted by this, especially with the new incoming software that will allow custom config of cold start, rpm etc..
In terms of what it actually does/smiles it brings, can you tell us a bit more re your "night and day" comment around performance etc?
I've not heard a good word re: the GTS DCT flash from anyone to date so wouldn't look at doing that (albeit its free so agree, at least experience for yourself and see if you can get along with it).

Hi BishUK,

The upcoming features are another reason to go with BM3, PTF are so far ahead of the curve when you consider the other options out there. The ongoing development makes the investment better value as the features keep coming.

It's difficult to quantify the results the map gives without a before and after dyno, but my car certainly pulls much stronger, the power curve is smooth and in Sport and Sport+ the overrun pops and bangs are addictive with the MPE valves open, so it scores highly on the smiles factor. For the cost and ease of install, I cannot imagine that there is a single bolt on option out there that would give the same kick in performance...unless you fancy rigging up an eBay NOS kit

I'm going to stick with the GTS DTC software for a bit and see if it's for me, but I'm still undecided for now. There's nothing wrong with it as such, it's just different. I tend to warm the car up in full auto, then switch to manual when I'm able to drive it properly. It's certainly keen to get through the gears in auto mode!

Sounds good Kenny, I'm gradually being seduced! I have upgraded Wagner IC, hi-flow charge pipes & turbo pipe, air filter, 200 cell DP and MPE so am good to go for stage 2 tune. Stage one sounds like fun so probably a no-brainer upgrade for the price for me.
I was waiting to see what the M2 Comp was like before making a call on keeping current car but I'm going to keep my preLCI N55 M2 now until (fingers crossed) they announce a CS/CSL version for year end 2019 purchase. I'm already clicking over 400bhp with current "breathing" mods and the car sounds awesome vs S55.
Thanks dude!

Given the upgrades you've made, I reckon you are making a good choice keeping your current car. I have no doubt that the BM3 Stage 2 flash would unleash the full potential of everything you've done so far.

I will be interested to hear your opinion if you decide to go for it...then I will be thinking about similar bolt-ons and Stage 2

Please use *ONLINE RECODE* its right in the same map you flashed.
You guys have to try to read instructions a few times not just click and jump into conclusion or pressing OK right away.

just want to confirm:
is it safe to run a 91 map and use 93/94 octane regularly?

reason i ask is because i do lots of travelling so i would prefer to have 91 map since some places dont have 93/94 available

Yep!

If you're in the Ontario area, Petro94 was nice while i visited toronto definitely use that when you can though you would benefit from the 93oct map.

Just flashed 93 stg 2 V5. Power bump is noticeable. One question proTUNING Freaks or anyone else maybe can answer...how do I reduce the pops and burbles to a more "normal" level. It's just too much, maybe if I were 22...but sadly I am not. (and yes I double checked to ensure I didn't flash the Aggressive Burble map - I can't even imagine what that must sound like)...I know there are some fine tuning sliders but does anyone know where they should be set to? Want to keep power, but soften the pops. A screen shot would be amazing.

Has anyone had hex tune first? If so can you give your comparison and reason for preferring bm3?

I emailed proTUNING Freaks this exact question last night. The pops and bangs are entertaining to say the least, and within 5 minutes of driving I got two thumbs up from other cars, but it is almost embarrassingly loud.

I'd have two suggestions if proTUNING Freaks is reading this:
  • In addition to the 'OEM' 'OTS' 'Off' and 'Custom' options, add 'OTS Stage 1' and 'OTS Stage 2' options
  • Provide us with the data for what 'OTS' settings mean in Stage 1 and Stage 2, so that we can tweak them accordingly
Personally, I'd like 2. from above. I think the OTS Stage 1 burbles are idea in Sport mode, but I'd like Comfort mode to have no burbles so that it actually is quiet and comfortable. In the OTS Stage 1, Comfort burbles are less than in Sport, but still present and a little too loud for my liking.

I have noticed that the 'OTS' was a setting that wasn't there just a few days ago... maybe they're somewhat listening to my feedback!

So tonight I finally got around to updating my bm3 software and then dialing down the burbles. I like to drive in sport for the stiffer steering and the ots stage 2 on 91 octane tune was just too aggressive. I have it the old college try for a few weeks and just couldn’t continue with it (found myself in comfort a lot). So now I think it’s perfect, I set burbles to not kick in until 2000 rpm and only 1 aggressive and 1.5 duration (if I recall correctly). Now I just get some minor rumble pops on deceleration which is just lovely to my ears. Anyways thanks guys for making this so adjustable, was able to dial to my liking.

I did, twice lol. Just depends on what you're looking for, plenty of answers on the boards, check out VF-Engineering posts as well.

Hex doesn't work with Awron which is a bit strange. Was told it needed to be uninstalled every time I swapped maps which seemed a bit silly. Tried to work with them to get a solution in place but never heard back. Love the VF brand and name, but Pro Tuning Freaks was a bit easier to deal with and had a reasonable turnaround to address my questions and frequent updates to their platform and maps for improved operating performance. Hence my reason for going BM3. Happy camper ever since.

I’ve been reading all the posts for both tunes and it seems VF’s set it and forget it is true and more reliable than BM3. More issues reported but more options available too. But is that a real world advantage? That’s my reason for asking.
