Cool The Tyspeed x CSF M2 Built for Pikes Peak

Introducing: the Tyspeed BMW F87 M2 Club Racer.

This M2 is pushing over 500 WHP/WTQ and only weighs 2,990 lbs. dry, with no driver. Shedding 460 lbs. on the F87 M2 chassis is a bit challenging considering its size. To achieve this Tyspeed has done few modifications to the chassis such as:

• Completely Stripped Interior
• Typed Composite Doors, Hood, and Deck Lid Assembly with Factory Mounting
• RKP Carbon 2x2 Roof from IND Distribution
• Custom Carbon Door Panels/Rear Bulkhead/Interior Trimmings
• Ultrashield Lexan Windshield (Custom Cut) and Lexan Side Windows
• Carbon Headlight Blanks Manufactured by Tyspeed
• Club Race Spec Roll Cage Fabrication by Tyspeed

With the plan to tackle the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the CSF M2 Club Racer had a big task at hand. Its built motor, ported heads, Pure Turbos, down pipes, some MS109 fuel and an aggressive tune, jumps the horsepower to 505 at the wheels.

Flying through winding roads and switchbacks turns on a hillside at 120+mph almost entirely without guard rails, you cannot come to this invite-only event for racers, and not be prepared. Here are some of the recent modifications done to the car leading up to the race:

• Built N55 Motor – w/ CP Standard size/compression Forged Pistons, Carrillo Rods, and ARP Hardware // Tuned to 505 WHP – 540 Ft/Lbs of Torque
• Ported Cylinder Head by HeadGames Motorworks
• Custom Tune for MS109 Fuel
• Meth Injection System w/ Pre+Post Intercooler Sprayers
• GTS Rear Differential and Transmission Flash
• XDI 35I High-Pressure Fuel Pump from TTFS
• Tyspeed Composite Doors, Hood, and Decklid assembly
• KMP Drivetrains F8x Paddle Shift Wheel w/ Quick Release
• AIM MXG Data Dash
• AJ Hartman Custom Carbon Fiber Front Splitter
• AJ Hartman Apex 12 Carbon Fiber Dual Element, Swan Neck Rear Wing
• AJ Hartman Carbon Fiber Flat Bottom Chassis
• AJ Hartman Carbon Fiber Dual Stage Diffuser
• AJ Hartman Custom Carbon Fiber Canards
• Motorola Long Track Communication System

The power modifications come at a compensation of increasing the amount of heat in the engine bay. While climbing up the mountains elevation as making the way up the last section of the race with almost 40% less oxygen in the air. Less oxygen in the air means that there is less oxygen to be forced into the intake manifold by the turbos and less oxygen to dissipate all of the heat. It is no easy task remaining COOL and collected when you factor in all of the conditions that PPIHC has to offer. Luckily the F87 M2 is equipped with the Ultimate Cooling Solution from CSF to be up for the task. The F87 M2 cooling kit includes a Triple-Pass Radiator, High Performance Intercooler that comes in a silver or black finish, Race-Spec Dual-Pass DCT Cooler and a Race-Spec Oil Cooler. However, the club racer utilizes an additional bar/plate oil cooler and the Race-Spec Triple-Pass radiator to get an additional 10mm of radiator core, forfeiting the A/C condenser to maximize the cooling capacity.

CSF's Ultimate N55 M2 Cooling Package:
• Triple-Pass Radiator (CSF#7078)
• High-Performance Intercooler (CSF#8115)
• Race-Spec Dual-Pass DCT Cooler (CSF#8103)
• Race-Spec Oil Cooler (CSF#8104)

Also Ran on the Tyspeed M2:
• Additional Bar and Plate Oil Cooler (CSF#8110): https://csfrace.com/csfs-new-line-of...l-oil-coolers/
• Additional Race-Spec Triple-Pass Radiator (CSF#7078LT): https://csfrace.com/bmw-f87-m2-cooling/

When race day came, the way up the mountain was a lot more intimidating than ever expected – with a torrential downpour, sleet building up on the road and windshield, lighting, and thunder surrounding his peripherals this was nothing Tyspeed had been planning for over the past year. Nonetheless, the team and the CSF M2 Club Racer had a successful completion up to the finish line of PPIHC. When CSF partnered with Tyspeed back at the end of 2016 to develop the Ultimate Cooling Solution for the F87 M2, PPIHC was not in the game plan. However, to see the CSF M2 Club Racer hold up to the test was a conquer CSF was proud to be apart of.
