This doesn't get in the way of a manual stick?

Not at all. I just installed mine today and it's way to far to hit the stick!

i think (not sure coz visual only) the magnets on the iPhone-12s are laid-out in a bigger diameter than this holder. if they're not aligned, wouldn't really work. IMHO.

People w/ this holder and 12 can chime in better.

Rennline should adapt a version that has that functionality.... ideally. Incorporate the charger too while at it.

If the ball joint is a standard Garmin-style one, you could swap out the magnetic part for a MagSafe compatible charger.. I just did something similar with a different mount using a Spigen charger in my wife's car. Worked like a charm!

No because magsafe has a different layout vs the tiny magnet holder that comes with the mount.

You need to buy a magsafe specific charger or mount end to put on the Rennline.

I just installed this in my (BRAND NEW only 241 miles, yes it was stressful yanking on the trim piece) '21 M2 Competition, yes the top piece pops out as one whole piece, yes it's going to make a lot of not so pleasant sounds, just go slow and you'll be ok.

I replaced the stock magnet/ball combo with a MagSafe one I had laying around and it popped right on with zero modifications.

I bought the mount but am kinda freaking out at the thought of popping out that top carbon fiber trim piece...any tips on where to start prying? Are there clips all around it or only in certain areas. Thx

Which top piece needs yanking—the whole carbon trim w/ the centre vents? Did you just those plastic trim tool and jammed it between that and the softer dash material? Did you start at the bottom of the chrome strip?

Thanks.

There are clips all around. It freaked me out too, as I had mentioned previously, it still had new car smell when I did it, lol

I used a plastic trim tool, stuck it under the left vent and popped that side out first, slowly moved the plastic trim tool over to the right, sticking my finger underneath as I went to slowly pop out the tabs. Eventually I reached the end of the right side and I had to grab the entire piece and VERY VERY SLOWLY started tugging on the tabs and it all comes out as ONE piece.

I just held the dash trim piece and I loosened the 2 allen bolts on the sides, pull the lower dash trim piece that you just loosened up towards you, slip the bracket in and reverse directions.

I've highlighted the trim piece you need to pop out. That trim piece with the 2 main vents and your CF trim is ONE PIECE.

There WILL be cables attached to the trim piece (your hazard switch and the blend switch) so be CAREFUL when you pull it towards you.

Go slow.

Thanks so much for the step by step! I just did mine, it worked out great. I took your advice and went slow, and there were no issues. Great bit of kit for sure.

Has anyone wired in/tried the inductive charger that fits to the Rennline mount?

Sort of considering it, but not sure what to do with/how to do the wiring.

^ This.

I use Apple CarPlay exclusively and I prefer to put my phone in the armrest charging cradle, not an option for the CS

Keeps me from playing w/the phone while driving.

Just be aware that you can probably only get 10W from the USB ports in the car. I haven't measured it, but I would be shocked if BMW allowed you to draw more than 2.1A from the USB A ports.

Apple MagSafe will charge at 15W, but only if your source can supply it, and only then through a USB C connector without an adapter to A.

If you want the full 15W you will have to use a standalone 12V cigarette lighter to USB-C charger that can legitimately source 3A @ 5V.

How strong is that magnet? Any issues knocking the phone or it falling off easily? Thnx.

Very strong...I have used this setup many times before in different cars. They do give two magnet options for mounting on the phone/case. There is a smaller round one which holds in place pretty well, or a much larger rectangular one that is really strong. Great mod.

Just installed this yesterday on my og m2. Very happy with it. Sits in a very accommodating position and best of all, no more blocking a vent and/or radio knobs with vent mount solutions! Lost a clip on the vent assembly when removing but still seems very secure.
