UK VED changes April 17

If I read the new UK VED rules correctly the M2 will have a tax penalty if registered after 1 April 2017 as costs more than £40,000. Maybe this will encourage BMW to bring forward some rhd production. Worth pressing your dealer if you currently have a potential 2017 slot. Looks like first year rate goes up from £490 to £1200 and annual charge from £265 to £450. So a decent amount of extra tax to pay if you miss 1 April 2017.

It's ok, he's going to use the money to repair roads. Makes you wonder where the current road tax goes. Absolute madness.

"The Chancellor has announced that the money raised from these VED payments will actually be put into a road fund to repair the nation’s roads."

With the current tax based on Co2 emissions they're going to have to shake it up a bit sometime soon as with more cars becoming hybrid and fully electric the tax must be dwindling...

I personally don't quite see how it's fair that some people should pay more than others - IMHO it should be a flat rate of say £150 a year for example.

UK taxes are out of control. Thought the U.S. was crazy.
