Eh, nice car don't get me wrong but at its price point (here at least) I'd rather go with German

I can see it depreciating really quickly and am still a bit bitter about how depreciation went with 1st gen M2's

No, I have a 2018 port installed MPE with an ASD bypass harness. Definitely no drone.

ASD is "Active Sound Design". I'm a complete Noob, so I find myself having to Google terms a lot.

It's basically an engine exhaust sound pumped thru your stereo speakers.

I found myself in a similar situation when wanting a fun car just for me. There just doesn't seem to be a lot out there that interests me (at least under a certain dollar amount).

Considered the JCW Mini, 2019 Mazda MX-5 Rf, Cayman, F-Type. But ended up with '17 Grandsport, only to trade for my M2 after 5 months. The Vette was amazing, but the blindspots were terrible, I was constantly worried about recurrent issues GM is having with their auto tranny, it was kind of a pain getting in and out, but man was it beautiful!

I'll second the vote for the GTI. Really fun little cars. I almost bought one, twice, but the wife killed it. Well, her and the fact that it has no beans below 2500 RPM and I like a bit more power.

I'm also amazed at people who claim to have no drone in their MPE M2 at 2800-3000 RPM. It's a killer. Whenever I sell this car, that will be the primary reason.

Regarding M2C, the exhaust can be easily changed and the seat coloring looks not bad in person, it's WAY more subtle than in the pics. You can hardly tell it's there in real life and the color is much darker.

I have a '14 Audi RS5, great looking coupe and you get the V8 sound track without the drone. If you want the V8 you'll have to find a 2013-2015, but there are some good deals out there.

Hahaha! I hear ya. When I Google something M2 related, I always add "BMW M2" and it usually pulls up forum threads or actual definitions.

Acroynyns are the worst! Until you know them. Then you could almost speak an a entire language in them

Removed ASD both with harness and BimmerCode

Much less drone but you can still hear it buzzing around 3000 rpm

Highway is more pronounced because you tend to hover around that range
Can you get rid of ASD with BimmerCode without having the harness installed?

Absolutely first thing I did with bimmercode. Only then did I start playing around with all the other cool options.

What else is there really on the market?

RS3 is a Kia, A45 is a two step downgrade, Cayman has four cylinders, Lotus comes with back hernia

Is there really nothing on level out there? Anyone in the same spot with a good idea for a side/upgrade?

CPO 2016 Cayman S

RS3 is a Kia? Sure it looks a bit bland compared to the M2 but it is a very nice car. It sounds as good as the M2 but without droning, it's quicker off the line, the gauges are spectacular.
I loved just about everything about it except the lack of manual transmission and not looking significantly different than the half price A3.

funny I looked hard at rs3
it got great reviews and was really fast and I like its looks more than an m240i (but not as much as an m2)

drove it a did not like it all
very obvious turbo lag
lag on transmission paddle shifts
didn't sound as good as I thought it would
bizarre video game dash

While I agree with you on some points, the RS3 sounds suited for the OP. I have both and it's nice to switch from the more "raw" feeling M2. Definitely more comfortable, sounds great from the outside but quiet in the cabin. Smooth, a little numb, but still fast. I love my Kia

Thinking outside of the box, I would suggest that you test drive a Porsche Macan and Macan S.
It is Porsche's top selling model for a reason, and there are very good deals to be had - I am driving a 2017 Macan S that was traded in with only 9,000 kms
We also drive an '18 M2 LCI, previous cars include a 911 GTS, 911 C2s and Hellcat Challenger.
The Macan surprised us.
