What's a good upgrade to a BMW M2?

Have put my M2 6MT 1st gen on sale recently and expect it to be sold in the next few weeks.

Overall, I've had a blast with the car for the most part but it's not really suiting as a DD anymore.

Drone's a bitch on the highway and Manual is a bitch in traffic

I've been car searching for a while now and there's just nothing on level with the M2 on the market right now.

I'm considering the M2C but the exhaust is really meh and the orange/blue decal on the sports seat are actually somewhat of an eye sore. I might get over these two things as they are not major but I'm feeling that going M2->M2C would be more of the same rather than something new

What else is there really on the market?

RS3 is a Kia, A45 is a two step downgrade, Cayman has four cylinders, Lotus comes with back hernia

Is there really nothing on level out there? Anyone in the same spot with a good idea for a side/upgrade?

I test drove a Jag F-Type R, and loved it!

You'd probably need to get one that's a couple of years old, if you want to stay in the same price bracket, but they are amazing cars, look fantastic, and drive amazingly well! They also have a much nicer interior then the M2, but they're thousands of dollars more!

If you had got rid of ASD your drone would have been gone. I would get an 2018 M2 with DCT. Then get an ASD bypass harness. That is what my DD is like.

The RPM in 6th on the MT also adds drone.

Get a MK7 gti for daily driving and keep m2 for weekends. GTI is great. New ones come with 6 year 72k mike warranty. Great daily driver. Amazing seats. Nice Controls and DSG gearbox is great for an automatic.

Removed ASD both with harness and BimmerCode

Much less drone but you can still hear it buzzing around 3000 rpm

Highway is more pronounced because you tend to hover around that range

Actually went M240i to M2

B58 in M240i is an underrated hidden gem, true sleeper

This said, if you go back to back M240i to M2 you will notice how much rigid and on the ground the M2 is. It's a great car but not on par on the M2 with overall experience.

I've looked into it, especially the V8.

The exhaust by itself speaks a lot for the car.

But I dunno, if you look at it from the side it becomes a bit meh

I came from the Jaguar FType V8. Agree the interior is excellent but outdated infotainment etc and it's a big feeling drive. Also wanted useable back seat. Exhaust note can't be beaten and amazing supercharged V8 but I overall think the M2 is way more of a driver's car. I got the ASD bypass, some CF bits and wouldn't go back

Civic Type R? As long as you don't have to look at it. Just kidding.

Mine is starting to do this as well, ~3500 miles.

By 3000 I don’t hear a drone but between maybe 1500-2500 I’m getting a medium pitched note whenever my foot is on the gas.

Looks to me what you looking for is a quieter automatic performance coupe. G82 M4 would be a good fit. But if you have to let go of the M2 now, stretch the budget a little (you said it's gonna be an upgrade didn't you?) for a CPO 991.2 base or S in PDK.

If you wanna go quiet on the highway just put it in efficient. I do that with the wife in the car.

Lmao at complaining about exhaust tone but also hating on the drone.

Lmao at considering v8s

Based on your post, you should look at a C63 AMG.

Is the drone any worse than an F80 with the 6MT?

You either have very high tolerance to drone or bmw made a custom mpe for you. I am guessing it's the former

Porsche 911 S is actually a really good call. Pricing is a bit of a bitch though here in Europe, something like 175,000$ for a reasonably specced configuration.

I've spent my fair share of time in the F80 M4 so I'm not that buzzed about the new M4. Crazy power and a lot of comfort but not really as fun as the M2.

Congrats on your car by the way, crazy milestone in M2 tuning for this forum!

New Mercedes line-ups with the exception of a few don't really excite me that much

Mid 00 C63 AMG is another story though. Best exhaust for its time!
