Top Speed of the M2C?

Lastnight I took my car on the autobahn and opened the car up to show a friend the difference in acceleration between my M2C and my previous 18 M2. The roads were empty because it was late so I was going to top speed too. My 18 would top at 155 mph, but lastnight I was between 160-170 mph and had not hit a governor, but slowed down for an upcoming traffic zone.

Are you in GE on assignment as a service member, or govt employee? Did you get the M-Perf Pkg?

I’m a service member in GE. I didn’t purchase the perf pkg, picked it up from the dealer as a demo with 1,600 miles.

Isn’t it 155?

I would guess it’s around 170 if there’s no governor but interested to see what you can get in “real world” data.

There's really two options here. Without the M Driver's Package its 155mph. With said package its 174mph.

My 18 LCI would stop accelerating at 155 mph, but my Comp continued to pull. As soon as the temps climb alittle or on my way to dropping it off for the port next week I’ll do it again and see exactly where it cuts out at. I was around 165 mph yesterday and it felt like there was a lot more.

Is that the indicated speed from the car or are you using GPS? My 335i is off by 4+ mph at 80. It appears to be somewhat linear at other speeds. In general aren't all US cars a bit optimistic with their indicated speed?

Unless anyone knows differently, all vehicle speedometers typically do not reflect the actual speed. All manufacturer could also calibrate it in a way so it's actually lower possibly due to liability issues if in an accident, speeding, etc. (e.g vehicle displays you are going 70 mph but are actually going 80 mph).

Also the speedometers in vehicle determine the speed by measuring how fast the wheels are spinning using the speed sensor so the speed will be different than what a GPS would be calculating.

Also there's dependencies on the diameter of the wheels, tire size, pressure, wear so that's a factor in the accuracy of the speedometer.

My motorcycle is the same way and is off 4-5 mph lower than the actual speed. On motorcycles, the speed sensor is on the rear tire but I'm not sure where the speed sensor is typically on cars.

Legally, the autobahn or track.

No idea where in the US folks are attempting to test top speed or feel the need to go 170 mph on public roads/freeways.

In my Z4M, I think something like 150 on the speedo was really around 144 via GPS. Your car might be limited at a real 162 MPH.

The 2er and 1er before it are not great aerodynamically. The E60 and E92 seem to be able to achieve higher speeds given the same amount of power as the F cars.

You can see this in other cars too. The C7 Corvette has the aero of a brick compared to the C6. Priorities were put on downforce and looks.

My stock OG M2 DCT did 272kmh on tacho. 169mph
My stock M2 Comp DCT did 274kmh on taco. 170mph.

IRL/GPS that would be around 155/160.

Cheers

Yes I know. In my OG M2 I discarded it for that reason. I think it was around € 3000. Now in Spain it comes standard in the competition.

It's a technicality you write in, when posting YouTube videos of illegal street racing, so to possibly circumvent the state of said event from prosecuting you.

I sincerely doubt anyone actually crosses the border to get their kicks..

I would love the idea of an unenforced speed limit like in Mexico. But I don't think my ObamaCare insurance kicks in over there, so if I crash, I'll probably end up dying in the barrios.
