So got hit hard other day busted a lot of stuff up insurance did not deem it totaled even tho airbags went off and the frame is bent.. who here has dealt with fixing a rear quarter panel? Do they cut a new piece out ? There's no way this car is going to feel the same :/

This guy is doing QP rebuild on a wrecked GTR...not same car, but you get the idea. This is not an 'official' repair shop, but something tells me much of the process is the same (i.e. removal of spot welds, etc.).
I'd push for write off if it were my car. Just sayin' https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl4...A2MlxmZorKOV7w |

Just a little FYI, a decent body shop repaired my quarter panel on my 135i, after a truck hit me. It was never the same; every time I hit a bump and the suspension rebounded, the rear would make a noticeable creaking noise, which sounded like some crickets getting bitch-slapped.. The edge of the quarter panel also gradually etched the side of my tire, until insides was exposed. I tried to get to the body shop to pay for an alignment - twice, which they claim was the issue. The person doing the alignment the second time told me to "sell it fast" Apparently, when the body shop welded on the new quarter panel, the tolerance is so tight in BMWs, that even a 1/2 inch off would somehow allow the tire to rub and the only solution would have to be to R&R the quarter panel again.. I already made a decision, if my vehicle is ever in such an accident again, I'm going to "total" it out myself.. |

also wanted to add, my car which was fixed at a BMW CCRC and it drives flawlessly. I can't tell anything wrong with the way it drives great almost 4k miles later now.
Since your airbags went off, I would push back on the insurance to total the car. that's just my 2 cents. I had some slight frame damage but my airbags did not go off. Was the other driver at fault? |

I had this much damage done to the rear quarter and they were able to pull it out. The car still isn't finished yet, so I can't comment on how well of a job they did. But I saw it a month ago after they pulled it, bare metal before bondo and paint, and it seemed to require a minimal amount of bondo to me.

Trying to explain to them it should be totaled for how bad it is the adjuster didn't see most of the stuff I see .. the front end not even hit but the hood is not pushed up against passenger side fender gaps are off.. passenger side untouched but the door gap is off.. meaning total frame damage I assume.. guess what the insurance quoted me?.. 8k in damage to repair it and it's not considered totaled.. tow truck driver drug it half way onto the truck with it still in gear.. tranny will be messed up I bet

I strongly recommend you take the car to a certified BMW repair shop. Not just a regular dealer, but a true certified repair shop. There are about 69 of them in the USA. They not only provide expert factory spec repairs, they fight with the insurance company to get the funding necessary to do the repair properly. Also, if the car is repairable, they will repair it to factory specs and it will drive like new. Ask me how I know.

My incident went through the same as yours. Actual damage estimate from tear down vs initial adjuster estimate had huge discrepancy |

In addition to taking the car to a BMW certified shop, I would also investigate filing a diminished value claim if they insist on repairing the car. Some states allow this. My brother-in-law got additional money after filing a claim on his 911. You may also need to get an attorney involved, but likely just to write a lawyer letter.
Edit... the threat of the diminished value claim may also push the dollar value up enough to total the car. |

It's also gonna be another $5400 to replace the Xpel, and I have a $4400 diminished value claim, ~$600 in other damages, and a loss of use claim I can make that is some absurd number. |

Also, with diminished value claim... I saw you asked about. There are two ways insurance companies figure it out. I used formula 17c which you can find by googling. The other calculation I could use showed a $19,000 diminished claim which I thought was pushing it.

And yea, the insurance adjuster only made an estimate for $14,000 in damages for me. So I had to get new estimates from everyone and do it all myself, which it's always a good idea to get your own estimates.
