MPE Remote Mount Ideas

I'm just posting some remote mount ideas that I have had. Maybe someone will find it useful.

This first one is a sun visor mount. Epoxy two of these clips together. One side clip to visor, other side holds remote. Con is that mounting to visor makes it far away from the start button and sport mode buttons. Ideally I want all my hand movements/buttons in close location to each other.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1

This next idea shows three different mounts. I think the last one is the best because it's less intrusive. I would shave down the top part flat, then mount it with 3m tape to the plastic area in front of the knee pad... next to the mode controls. Not sure if my knee would hit it though. I don't have my M2 to test this yet, but so far this seems like the best option.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1

This is the area I'm talking about mounting it to.

Another idea I've seen is getting the M3/M4 sport control switches and wiring it to one of those. I haven't seen this done before. But also then the labels won't match what our current buttons do. There are no sport/comfort buttons on the m3/m4 switch panel.

So, another idea I had is that the european M2 has the rear fog light switch. Could order that switch and wire the remote to that. Again, it puts the button away from the start and mode controls, meaning more hand movements to accomplish what you want. Basically I want the start, mode controls, and exhaust button all in near locations to each other so my start up procedure doesn't invovle a ton of hand movements. Anyway, thought I would share the fog switch idea anyway, incase anyone wants to wire it up for something else. The M2 doesn't have any empty aux switches, so that can be one of them.

I've seen people talk about wiring the MPE remote into the garage door switches in the rear view mirror too. Haven't seen it done, but that seems like a tight space to fit the MPE remote electronics into, and it also places it away from the other buttons. And I've also seen people talk about getting the valves to work with the comfort/sport buttons, but haven't seen that accomplished yet either and I have no idea if it would work.

Edit: Oh, I just realized we can buy the M2C M steering wheel buttons too. I think they fit the M2 wheel and might be a solution for more Aux switches.

I really don’t have a problem leaving the MPE remote in the cup holder.

I use the ash tray for spare change, so with the MPE too that leave me with only the door bottle holders. And don't want to put the ash tray in the door because then my spare change jingle jangles when I open/close the door.

We use Good to Go pass so no need for change in the car.

I have mine in the door cup holder. Works great.

That said, I'm having my car stereo shop look at mounting it in the space currently occupied by the cigarette lighter plug in the center console between the cup holders. I don't use that charger anyway... I'll post a photo if it works out.

I got tired of losing a cupholder spot, so I put mine in the door too. Unlike (I guess) most of you fellas (and gals) I don't turn on the exhaust very often. I'm old and don't like all that volume if I'm just puttering through town.

I don't think that rear foglight button idea will work, since the switch is actually there, just blocked off for USA market. I like the idea of putting it in the lighter/charger spot, if it will fit and work properly there. I presume that you need to provide a way to get it back out easily to change the batteries.

This has been done...there is a pic of it somewhere on the forum. Probably the best solution I've seen, but I believe it required some slight cutting of the socket area to enable the MPE controller to fit. Looks almost stock if done properly, and you get your cup holders back!

Personally, I leave mine in the passenger cup holder as I very rarely have a passenger...my wife hates the M2...

There's an aftermarket controller out that let's you control it from one of the garage door buttons. Do not recall who makes it.

Not really a cheap solution, but seems like the easiest for a factory look.

Me neither, but understand why someone would want a more integrated solution.

Also, I cut the black strap off the remote and feel that looks less aftermarket in the cup holder.

I saw somewhere online where a guy used the cigarette lighter and widened the hole for the controller to fit.

The VSC-2 should work. All you're doing is disconnecting the OE wiring from the exhaust valves and replacing it with the provided CG connector and then plugging the other end into the little control unit that gets mounted under the car. It's a super easy and clean install. Works great with my Remus exhaust which uses the same 2 OEM BMW valve control units that the MPE has so I don't see why it wouldn't work with your exhausts.

The valves are different part numbers. I tried to do some investigating into the difference between them but failed to find anything.
The stock M2 uses single valve that's the same as most non M cars.
The MPE uses two valves that are the same as stock valves on F80.
Someone asked CGP if the VSC-2 will work with the M2 MPE and the manufacturer said no. That doesn't mean it won't work.
VSC-2 should work at least for limited operation (manual open, manual close) but whether it can work with the DME signals for different driving modes I don't know.

The easiest test would be plugging one of the MPE valves to the OEM harness and see if the DME can control it.

I was going to do a lot of this research but lately I've been just driving with the valves disconnected in the open position.

Ah, wasn't aware the valves had different part #'s

Would be nice if someone took one for the team and tested it out

I have found a solution to the finicky Bluetooth controller that can work like the CG Precision or can be wired into the cabin to use a toggle switch or a fancy billet button.

I read a while ago and can't find a thread how someone wired into the steering wheel dummy buttons. Competitions use these buttons for the sport maps but OG's are just blanks. It ruins the MPE remote because you have to cut and solder but the instructions were perfect.

I was going to do it but have no experience with anything described so opted not too.
