I don't think the intake does anything but change sound. I wouldn't do it. Why not but an intake where you don't have to cut anything and sell the Dinan one?

The MPE has a lot of sound. I can't imagine making it louder.

I'm thinking about selling it and put the funds against the diffuser...I knew that was going to happen.

oh the diffuser makes the rear look race car. Best carbon piece.

Oh yes it is! Picked up a 18 M2 LBB w/MPE and first trip from the dealer was to pickup a set of gloss black IND grille surrounds off craigslist.

Yes. Intake went in relatively early in the mod process.
Performance gain? Not so much.
Although, with the marginal change in intake sound and knowing that there was carbon fiber under the hood, I certainly FELT groovier!
The brace modification is small and could probably be done with some snips and/or a dremel tool.
I won't argue with the others who've voted for the diffuser. Makes the rear look proper but a PITA to install.
Fun problems to have though, right?

So question on those who have the Dinan CAI. I believe cutting the brace is to allow access to the filter. It's not often I'm in that box. What if I don't cut the brace and if I need access to it I undo the two bolts?

I found a picture on the internet. I guess the lid sticks up over the brace so I guess it does have to get cut. I hate to cut it but it does seem significant enough that it would impact the car.

Start cold engine and immediately open the MPE valves inside your garage or in an underground parking lot = approx. 30 seconds (cold start sequence) of 'beast mode'.

a couple of questions:

1) I have removed the Dinan CAI from the M235. I trust I can pop that in the new M2?

2) I have his 710 VMR's 18" that I convert into his winter setup with his Nokian snows. Will the staggered 710's work with his M2?

Have to figure out how to upload some pics. It's the first M car in the family. Exciting.

The Dinan CAI will fit - there is minor metalwork to do though. The strut brace on the port side will need a small cut . I believe it's on their website

Thanks. I saw it. If I decide to install it on the M2 I'll have to take it to the dealership to cut that brace. They told me it would be a half hour labour or a full hour to do the complete install.

Need some more advice on rim and tire sizes. I'm looking at getting a set of rims with these options, 19x8.5 ET35 - 19x9.5 ET40. Any issues utilizing the OEM tires? If you were to buy new tires would you go with different sizing?

If you do go that route with the oem tires, would you be interested in selling the 437 rims? I'm local and would buy them immediately. Let me know. Thanks

I have the OEM tires and wondering if they will sit right with those rim sizes. I was unlucky and got Continentals so if you guys think another tire size would work better I'll just look to make the switch now to Michelin SSP4.

I have the Dinan Intake. The top has to be higher because of the cylindrical shape of the filter. I wasn't a fan of cutting the brace, but it was easy and does't take a lot of material out. I bought an extra brace in case I want to go back to stock or try another CAI, but I'm happy with the Dinan.

I agree it doesn't do much and is just eye candy and sound. The M2's stock airbox has a extra hole in the front side, that is plugged for the installation of the Dinan intake. The is a modification for other series called a m performance mod, I think. I debated leaving the hole, because the Dinan instructions don't specify anything for the M2; other than cutting the brace.

I searched but there is not clear answer how much difference this makes, other than a guy on this forum, who said he left the hole open for more sound. I thought plugging the hole made sense, because it seals the system better.

One thing i did notice is, it seems that my fuel economy improved by a few MPH during long trips.

Still debating what to do. I like your idea of buying a brace and converting it back. I really want to use this CAI. I felt it made a difference on the M235.

Not sure what you mean about the hole. I remember on the M235 I had to remove the snow valve and replace that with a cover.

If you install the intake you will see what I mean. I also had a M235i with the snow valve. On the M2, there is a opening on the front side of the air box. You can’t see it, until you take your stock intake apart.

X54TH I removed a couple of recent posts that 'polluted' this thread.

Hang on in there. Ignore those with bad intentions.
