Ohhh, interesting... never thought about painting them.

Is there a reason you did not go with the set from BMW (with tires?) That would have taken car of everything.

and...

On that note, I would do what BMW does and go with the 235/40/18. The narrower the tire the better (for snow).

As the set is OEM not available in black, the best way for me was buying a set of rims, let them paint elsewhere and afterwards buy a set of tyres. Seems more complicated but less expensive as if I would have asked my BMW dealer to do the job. But I was lucky to find a salesman who takes moderate gains on the OEM BMW rim sets compared to my dealer.

I thought I remembered pricing them over here and they were much more expensive to piece together (which would be my choice, because I would fit the car with Nokian WGR3s as my tire of choice.)

Of course, now, because of you, I have to start researching painting wheels

Anyone an idee. BMW prescribes for the M2 winterset 640M : front 235/40/18, rear 255/35/18. Remark rear 35, front 40 height.
The other possibility according to BMW is 235/40/18 all arround, but that is no option for me.

Here's a similar question as Pol.

I've found a someone who is selling a 640M winterset from his M4, tires are 255/40/18 square.

I'm not sure if the front tires will rub or not...can anyone comment?

Are you sure? Isn't it square 245/40-18?

I believe it is is a square set at 235/40/18 - even though the rear wheels are wider. There is an option however for a 255/35/18 rear wheel -but that one says no snow chains? Anyway, I've heard it is delivered as a square set.

Thanks, but then I'd have to buy the set before I could try it out

I am sure. I asked www.leebman24.de. BMW proposes 2 possibilities :
4 x 235/40/18 or 2x235/40/18 + 2x255/35/18
But I don't understand why they change the height of the tyre in the rear.
265/35/19 (OEM summer) is 8mm taller than 255/40/18 (BMW's winter option) ???
Wheel height 265/35/19 = 669mm (26,3") ; 255/40/18 661mm (26")

Perhaps 245/40/18 all around could be an option.
My dealer advises 255/18 in the rear for a better grip. Over here we don't have that much snow in the last few years.

Looks like the 255/35 option is just under 5mm taller. Maybe that doesn't make much difference? I find that weird as well.

and from "everything" I've ever read, you want a narrower tire for winter (and I would expect rain too). While your grip will be better in the dry with the 255 width, that is the only place it will be better

In rain conditions I think a 255 wintertyre on the M2 should even give a better grip than the narrower one.

sort of - in rainy conditions yes, but in terms of hydroplaning (which is what I really meant), the narrower tire would be less susceptible to hydroplaning.

Very lost in the correct wheel fitment for our cars.
Would BBS CH wheels and Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero tires fit??

(2) 18x8.5 (offset 35mm) + 245/40R-18
(2) 18x10 (offset 40mm) + 265/40R-18

In the end I bought a used set of grey 19" wheels from a BMW M4. They are identical in size and offset as the M2 wheels so no fitting issues. I'm going to fit them with 19" Michelin Winter tyres in the OEM sizes. Next winter I'm going to powdercoat them in satin black. I know the narrower the tyre the better; but I live in Belgium not Sweden

Does anyone know if a square set up of BMW 513's 18 x 10 with blizzak LM 255/40/18 will fit our M2's??
Someone from the M3 forum had this set up and I'm thinking about copying it.

Sorry for bumping this thread again. I'm getting my M2 in a matter of weeks and I'm thinking about running the stock wheels with 255/35 R19's all around. Has anyone done that? Care to share any pictures?

Since this is bumped, for those who changed tires without a secondary vehicle, are you able to fit 3 in the rear (with seats covered of course? and one in the trunk?

I had no problems bringing my mounted winters home, 3 on the folded down seats and 1 in the trunk. That was 245/40R18 on 8.5" rims. There was plenty of space. I then swapped the wheels myself a few weeks later.

I wouldn't expect there to be problems fitting the stock 19"s with tires in the car too.
