M2 to M3

I enjoyed three great years with the M2. What a great car! Moved to a 2018 M3 today. What a beast. So fast and aggressive! Love the technology. It's my 6th M3. My favorite is still my orange 1M.

Congrats! I have contemplated doing the same for space reasons. Did you trade in or sell outright?

Nice! I was actually M3 shopping when I decided on the M2 instead. You really can't go wrong with either choice.

Very nice! Congrats.

I'm currently in an F80 M3 and am looking to get into an OG M2 when I return my lease. No availability of the M3 and not so great lease deals compared to what I had gotten but wanting to stay in the M family is driving the decision. Would love to hear your thoughts on the change.

Very interesting.

I have an F80 ZCP and want to go the other direction - I love the F80 and the S55 is quite the motor...but it's a little big for my tastes. I wish there was a 4 door M2 or M2GC option, because that would be a perfect car for my needs.

What are your thoughts on that front? Does the M3 feel pretty big in comparison? Whenever I drive my dad's M2, I can feel that size difference immediately...

I am trying to decide between the OG M@ and the M2C. There are parts of both cars that I love, and I wish I could Frankenstein those pieces together.

My F80 lease has a whole year left, but man there are some good deals on 2018 OG M2s out there. I've seen a few where there's 4-5K in incentives and 4-5K more in discounts. It's such a good little car, especially at those prices. I am really tempted to jump now, because I am not sure how much longer the 18s will sit around.

Congratulations. The M3 is a great BMW but a little too big for me. My E46 M3 was great. Too bad they grew so much in size.

FWD platform as far as I know. Not the same as the M2. Unfortunate.

Same here. A 4 door M2 would be perfect for my situation. I love the S55. Sound doesn't bother me as much as others but the N55 does sound better. I have terrible traction with my F80 (6MT) so I'm afraid that the M2 CP will be similar. Overall though, in terms of value - a leftover 2018 or one with a few miles on it, is a great deal right now. Can sell in a few years and overall would be pretty inexpensive to own.

The BMW dealer is buying back from me. Good price.

The M2 was a fun car, but the M3 is at a totally different level in regards to power and interior finish.

It honestly does not feel any bigger at all. Not as bloated as M2.

Feels more planted than M2. Maybe better steering? I really love it.

Yeah, I could understand on the power/level of materials. I wonder about that, going from the M3 --> M2. I think I might miss the S55...was your M2 tuned?

Interesting that you felt the M2 was bloated...

I’m pretty sure he meant to say m4.

Regarding missing the s55, for me the noise of the n55 is more important. I’ve realised (especially on uk roads) that at around 400 bhp you really are at the limits of what’s possible with rear wheel drive. 4wd is another matter.

If you track a car then that’s different.

I went the other direction, from an M3 F80 to M2 LCI, I love the M2 because of the sound, I hate the sound of the M3, not even with the AKRA sounded good, all those farts; I had the oportunity to get an M2 Competition and I did not even thought about it just because of that.

Congrats on the M3. I've never really wanted a four door M car, but that's just me. I do think they look nice.
