M2C vs GTR

So, I had a little fun with my buddy's '10 GTR today...

1st run: rolling start at about 20mph

I said go, but he didn't go right away. I actually waited what felt like 2-3 seconds for him and then I floored it. He claims that it took awhile for his auto-mode to downshift. Anyway, I was only shifting at maybe 6500 max and slowed down after like 100mph. He said was gaining on me, but I didn't redline and started to slow down. (I'm not sure why he didn't just use the manual-mode, but a win is a win! Haha)

2nd run: off the line at a stop light

This time, he absolutely whomped me. LOL. His car just took off. Meanwhile, I had zero traction and I actually felt the car cut my power...prolly saving our lives. Is this the DSC at work?

BTW, I had my wife in the car and he was solo.

The gtr's are beasts off the line. If its a recent model they're capable of 0-100 in 2.9-3 seconds, that is a full second faster than our cars.

M2C is no competition for a stock GT-R much less a modded one. The slowest stock ones trap 120 in the 1/4 mile.

Had a 2017 GTR which was the recently facelifted model. Despite its weight, it was a very fast and great handling car. But seating position seems kinda high and you feel like you are on top rather than inside the car. Overall a very capable car and probably still the best value "supercar" at the moment on paper. But frankly speaking, it felt robotic and I was bored in only a few months so I traded it for something else not long after.

After owning a good number of sports cars, I realized that fastest doesn't necessarily translate to most fun. At the moment, enjoying the M2C much more than when I had the GTR.

I own a completely stock 2009 (bought new in 2008) GT-R, as well as an M2C. My M2 is a manual. Couldn’t be two more different similar cars. The GT-R is a beast from a dig. With me driving (not a race car driver) it does 1/4 mile in 11.4 at 126 mph. It’s also HUGE compared to the M2, and feels it. From a pure handling standpoint there is no comparison. The M2 is by far, the better car. I’m very interested to compare their respective track performance. I’m local to Watkins Glen Intl. I haven’t had the GT-R on the track since it was repaved a few years ago, but I did a best lap of 2:05 (with an instructor riding shotgun). Typical laps were 2:13-ish. I’m not sure how the M2C will do putting down the power out of corners, but I would guess that it’s capable of similar times to the GT-R on that track. Interesting side note: the 2009 GT-R and the 2019 M2C were within $1000 of each other new.

Update...

I've recently did the Stage 1 flash (bm3) and I've been dying to "race" my buddy's GTR (stock '10) again, but he won't. I think he's a bit scared that I may beat him now. Haha

I have no idea if I would win or not and I don't really care, but I just want to see for fun...and he won't grant me this. LOL

What do yall think? Obviously I would still lose from a dig, but what about rolling? ...1/4 mile?

I'm seriously considering picking up a low mileage GTR. Always loved the GTR.

Anything you've noticed during your GTR ownership, that you would advise any potential buyers to be wary of? I'm looking at 2012-2015.

i heard from a few GTR owners that early models suffer from alot of transmission issues. Also not sure if its applicable anymore but apparently the oil changes are supposed to be really pricey for a nissan.

Early early transmissions did but the DBA generation he is looking at were pretty solid from the manufacturer. Oil changes can be a little pricey depending on where you go but overall the maintenance isn't actually that bad.

The earlier CBA had to have the trans and diff fluid change every 18k (bumped up 36k on newer DBA) which used to be be pretty pricey close to 1k in fluids.

I remembered the sticker shock was on the stock rotors which was 1k a rotor.

nomoracin was you/your buddy's GTR tuned by Baker?

Brakes are expensive but there are cheaper aftermarket options. Fluid for trans is around 30/quart last time I checked I think you need something like 10-12 quarts. If you track it you will eat brakes and tires and if you don't get a trans cooler you will overheat the transmission fluid and have to change it every 3k miles.

Some of the clutch baskets for the trans failed and if you tuned your car Nissan wouldn't cover it and it's expensive to fix.
