M2 Charge Pipe ??

How essential is it to upgrade the M2 charge pipe when upgrading the FMIC with a Stage 1 or Stage 2 tune ? Anyone actually blown their M2 charge pipe ?

From what I've gathered there are reports of people blowing stock charge pipe even on stock tune.

With extra boost from a tune it's pretty much a crucial upgrade

I’ve heard of folks with CP issues on their M235...but haven’t actually seen anyone with a M2 failure. Any body ?

It's cheap insurance. I'd just do it if you're already in there.

what detroitm2 said.

M235 and M2 have the same pipe. If it can break on the M235 it can break on the M2. There was somone last year on the M2 forums that posted about his breaking on stock. Search is your friend.

Any aftermarket one will be better.
Check the sponsor classifieds.
Active Autowerke and VRSF are a couple of them.

happened on my Oner and it wasn't fun. car crawls up the revs everrrr so slowly when the pipe is off!! pop can be freaky too if you're not aware of the CP being the usual suspect

getting the VRSF pipe installed along with FMIC & DP in the spring before upping to stg 2

I used vrsf and it was an easy install. Different brands put the split (they're all 2-piece) in different locations. The vrsf one splits down near the intercooler and I was able to easily access both clamp bolts from under the car. The evolution one splits up near the top but the clamps would be pretty hard to get to and the pipes are hard to plumb through the engine bay when it's one piece. (getting the oem one out is a little tricky unless you don't mind cutting it in half)

What tools would I need to do this myself?

UltraMagneticAL made a DIY video I bookmarked way back. Just in case I ever decide to tackle this myself.

He installs both FMIC and charge pipe in the clip.

Ramps or jack stands, socket set, socket extension(s), and that's really about it. Removing the OEM charge pipe is the hardest part. The skid plates are annoying but they're easy. Just a bunch of low torque trim screws.

I took a ton of pictures so I made a quick video. My video is more of a supplemental video with tips to make the process easier. I linked the video that I found most helpful in the video description.

My M2 has 1800 miles on the clock, and was running between stock and stage 1 tune. Dyno'd it and found out I had a boost leak, no codes or any error messages. Swapped to ER CP and CSF FMIC and gained back almost 50whp.

My friends 135i CP blew up running stage 2, had to limp mode the 2 hour drive back home, but good thing the new one was waiting for him there.

Would you happen to know how AA is designed? Thinking of getting it over VRSF as both are same price.

Turner Motorsport recommended this one to me. I'm having it installed in March.
