Track Wheels with Ohlins RT

I'm trying to decide what spec 18" wheels to get for track but it's turning out to be a harder decision than I thought due to the stuff I've been reading. Here's my setup:

- Ohlins RT with GC camber plates
- NT01 275/35/18 square
- I currently have 7.5mm and 10mm Turner spacers but I can get another set if a different size is needed.

I want to be able to run this 275 square setup without any rubbing or issues. I have read 275 on 9.5 wide wheels might have sidewall flex issues which I would want to avoid. I was planning to get Apex EC-7 18x10 ET33 but Apex told me it's not recommended due to having to run large spacers up front (not sure how large). I'd really appreciate if anyone who has a similar setup can share their experience and feedback.

Since it looks like you're on an M2C you probably need to look at 19" wheels and tires unless you've swapped out brakes. As far as I know the Competition models sold in North America all come with the larger brakes which don't fit with 18" wheels.

I already replaced my brakes with AP Racing kit so 18" wheels work for me.

275 is a lot of rubber up front to clear the fenderwell during suspension cycling. Have you run NT01 on track before? The grip will be excellent even at a 255 width (if the NT01 has that width).

On my M4, I ran NT-01 with 285 up front and 305 rear. This was a CCW 18in set up. When I bought my M2, given the same suspension/brakes as the M4, was hoping I could use this set up. Too wide. Not sure There is enough clearance up-front for an 11in rim with 275 or wider. You'll have to do some research at talk to some reputable shops and wheel makers. I worked with CCW and they were custom designing the wheel package for the M4. They were bought out long before I got my M2

I've found these cars do well on-track with a staggered set up so you can put more power to the rear tires (more width). Trail braking and some finesse through the tight corners manages understeer just fine, in my driving experience w/R compound tires.

I have an OG M2 with Ohlins R&T, Camber plates, and I run Michelin SC2 on the factory rims. The car dances well of you don't overdrive it.

Let us know what you find out!

I have run 275 rear/305 NT01s on my M4 for over 10 track days and they are my favorite track tires on the dry. I know several M2 owners running 275 square setup (NT01) but I just need to know what spec wheels and what suspension they are on. 11" wide wheels are too much for the M2. I'll either get 18x9.5" or 18x10" ET33 square. 18x9.5" square is an easier fit but I don't want to run 275 on 9.5" wheels due to sidewall flex that some people mention.

I run APEX SM-10 18x10 ET33 front and rear on my 2018 M2 and will go for the 18x11 ET44 rear next year as I run 265 front and 295 rear Trofeo R with my track setup. I also run Øhlins R&T with 12mm spacers and 3.5 negative camber on the front and no spacer and 2.5 negative camber on the rear. I run 378x36mm AP front dics with 9660 AP calipers and original rear and will swap out the rears with AP in the spring.

You have a very similar setup to mine Ohlins and AP 9660 (I have the 9449 rear as well). Have you experimented with less camber at all? I was planning to go as high as -3 since this a dual purpose car for me and will have plenty of street time (even -3 is pretty aggressive for street in fact lol). I'm just curious if I can get away with the following front setup:

- 18x10 ET33, 10mm spacers, -3camber, 275 NT01

Also, I just sold the track wheel set that I used on my M4 (18x10 ET25 and 18x11 ET44). I thought 11" wide wheels would be too wide for the M2 and no way I could fit 305 NT01s. Now you made me regret it are you sure you can fit 18x11 ET44 with 295 Trofeo R on the M2?

According to APEX 11 ET44 will fit and since 10 ET33 with the same 295/30 tire fits without rubbing I think it will.

It will fit with less camber, but I was told I need 12mm spacers. Check with the APEX guys as they know what they are talking about.

I will put the 9449 on the rear as well this spring. I am also thinking about putting carbon doors on it saving another 60-70kg.

OP,
I am running the 9.5 ET35 EC7’s and will be opting for 265 square.. to be honest I wish I went with 10inch wheels as I’d prefer 275 or larger but this setup is pretty maxed out at 265. Go the larger wheel, who cares if you need big spacers!

I definitely don't mind running spacers. I'm just worried about rubbing and don't want to run anything more than -3 degrees of camber. But yea, looks like I'll go with 18x10 wheels.

I've been running NT01 in 275 square on 18x10 ET 33 with a 12mm spacer up front on Bilstein lowered suspension and 3.2 neg camber. No rubbing.

Thanks for confirming! Do you they would still fit without rubbing if you had less camber (maybe -3)?

I think you should be fine at around 3. If I recall correctly, in the spring of last year, I actually test fitted the Apex/Nitto setup first at my old camber setting of 2.7. I the drove with this setup about 40 miles to a race shop to have the car corner balanced and have some additional camber added. There was no rubbing during the trip.

For reference, here's a pic of what it looked like after everything was done.
