Yes, I added 6 full bottles then about .7 of the 7th bottle. Checked engine level and it showed that it was perfect.

Here is my run with Platinum Euro 5w-40 with 2 track days at Laguna Seca and 1 track day at Buttonwillow Raceway. I'd say it did pretty good. |

I think the point should be to consider all of the factors before choosing to run a different oil viscosity. I live in AZ, very high temps in the summer and rarely does the temp go under 40 in the winter. I track my car regularly on 90 degree days. 0 weight oil in these driving conditions does not make sense. The idea that a single oil weight is universally applicable is silly. BMW of course cannot have 4-5 oil specs based on environmental and driving conditions so they chose the one that made the most sense for most situations while providing flexibility through their approval of LLO1 oils for their cars. Before I make any oil decisions I check with the oil nerds (term of respect) over at bobistheoilguy.com . They consistently provide very solid engineering/science based recommendations. Their recommendation matched that of the good folks over at Bimmerworld who stated that for my conditions and driving 5w-40 is the best fit. Blackstone oil analysis has shown the Motul 8100 xcess to hold up very well to my 6 track days and/or 6,000 mile interval. I could likely go another 2,000 miles but I buy my oil in bulk and it is very inexpensive buying that way.
BTW I currently have just over 35,000 miles on my M2. |
