2018 Lci Front Bumper Xpel PPF Template?...

Hi Guys,

I picked up my new LBB M2 two weeks ago and I am really enjoying the car, can't wait for the 1200 running in miles to be up!..

I am looking at getting a ceramic coating and ppf combo done to protect the paintwork.

I am currently thinking front bumper, headlights, side skirts, plus extended rear quarter panel and patch to the rear of the rear wheels in ppf and then ceramic coating on everything else. I am undecided about the bonnet as full bonnet is £££ but half bonnet is reasonable, I just have to deal with the horizontal line mid bonnet...

I have spoken to a number of installers in my region, my current chosen installer cannot find a Xpel template for the lci bumper.. Has anyone else had this problem / got any advice on any of the above?

Regards Sharky.

Expel

Hi Sharkey
Not much consolation as I am up both in Fife, Scotland. Collected my new Mineral Grey M2 last night. My local detailer, Spotless Detailing in Perth has quoted me £425 to Expel the front bumper, so it's obviously possible. Contact Callum through his website for the template details.

There is no change to LCI bumper so existing templates are fine.

Thank you stevw724 and BishUK for your responses, turns out the installer looked on the BMW website for the 2018 model (which now shows the M2 competition), hence the confusion. They now have the right template, and due to install on Tuesday, just need to make a decision about half or no front bumper ppf!.. Sadly full bonnet is not an option financially

Ppf only worth it if you do whole front end.
You can respray bumper for that much if you have to after a few years.

Have a look at the aliath.co.uk website. £75 for a pre cut front bumper template and same for the leading edge of the bonnet. They also do most of the other areas prone to chipping. If you don't fancy applying I'm sure you'd find someone local to do it. I haven't tried them btw just spotted it via another forum.

I'm looking to get the front bumper done as I've discovered long beach blue is a c*nt to touch-up as the colour never blends with the surrounding area.

I made some enquires last week and was quoted around £500 for the front bumper alone as it takes practically the whole day for it to be done due the complicated shape.

I'm also very concerned about my rear quarters which are starting to show signs of chipping and I have stock wheels / tyres with a stock offset.

Has anyone else noticed their rear quarters are starting to get marked up?

Cheers

The rears seems to be quite common for chipping, the anti-chip stuff they put on there is too small but even at its current size looks horrible.

I have a few tiny chips just above the chip guard that I have noticed.

I had my installer do a custom piece of film on the rear quarters. I have a lot more coverage now than what it was with the factory piece. Highly recommended!

I did a full-body wrap with XPEL Ultimate Plus (minus the roof). My M235 has a partial front wrap and I absolutely hate it. The line running across hood/fenders is barely visible at first, but over time the edge collects grime/dirt/wax and becomes readily apparent. Now it's so visible I'm removing it and getting the full front redone, but whole panels this time.

The rear quarters on the M2 are VERY prone to rock chips since they protrude out so far. BMW knew this would be an issue, hence their feeble attempt to cover them with the inferior film they use from the factory. The diameter of the coverage is insufficient and the quality is sub-par so it yellows over time. Definitely worth replacing.

On a color like BSM, rock chips stand out really bad and would drive my OCD nuts. The PPF is worth the investment, if only for my sanity's sake

Sure thing. I'm planning on washing the car tomorrow, so I'll try to get some decent pictures after that.

Here are a couple pics. I tried to take them at an angle where you can see the edge of the PPF, but it blends in pretty well with the paint.

Thanks for the time, its tricky to visualise but appears to be bigger nearer the door and tapers of towards the wheel arch. I've highlighted the edge in Red the best I can see, does it come down over the crease in the actual wheel arch or stop before it?

Cheers MJ

The line you made matches up with the edge of the film. The film goes all the way to the wheel arches and wraps inside of them.

On another note, here's a perfect example of why this is a good investment. Whatever hit my rear quarter panel must have had some mass behind it. Thankfully no damage to the paint, the ppf took the brunt of it. This is the driver's side.

...just resurrecting this thead...

I've got a couple of quote's for front end Xpel PPF wrap at detailer's on my M2C.

Full bonnet, bumper, wings, lights and mirror housings.

They're both around £1,600 +/- £50. 2 to 3 days work.

What do you chaps think? it seem's a bit steep to me.

Sounds about right...its not cheap. I had everything bar the roof, boot lid, rear bumper done in Xpel and it was £2700 and that was with a discount! Would I have it done again....probably not, I'd live with the chips as I prefer the real paint look and PPF just isn't 'perfect', maybe I'm picky. The only areas I think it's really worth doing is the sills and the rear wings as these cars chuck the stones up and they get peppered.

Thanks,

It's not my DD and it doesn't do much motorway so it's not worth that much for front end PPF IMO. I can do a lot of chip touch ups for that!

I agree, rear flanks and cills would be good, those areas have already picked up numerous tar spots and minor impacts in just 3 weeks.

That's all I'd get done again. Mines a DD but I only do about 6k a year although it's on country roads so plenty of stones. The PPF on the sills especially has taken a battering.
