I deal with it everyday in my professional life - the “eat what you kill” mentality and how it creates all sorts of problems for companies. But that’s another conversation.

The roof is a pretty useless option for most buyers at the moment when you need a few guys doing invasive work on the car and then have to pay them commensurately for the 10 hours+ work that they did....
Should have made it standard on the M2C and charge an extra...say 2k on top |

This is the same process for installing the Carbon Fiber Roof on a E46 M3. The grind wheel part makes no sense as the skin is just weld on. 96 spot welds and remove it. So realistically that is a off step to me based on the video.
If you take your time this is not that complex. The only lame part is taking the glass off out and that can crank in some cases. So the $3000 job just got up to 4-5K if both break.

My carbon roof is going on the car next week Tuesday... I finally found a partner who can do it for me.

I would assume that anything invasive like this done outside of BMW would void the warranty on all involved components. It is pretty stupid that they didn't offer this as an option at the point of sale. I would have definitely opted for it, as would most others I would imagine.

Eventually I'll have a thread on my build. I'm just a bit preoccupied at the moment. I have the entire installation process documented in photos, and I've also got a timelapse. It took my shop about 2 weeks from start to finish. It took a lot longer because my original roof was not drilled through, and my roof can be welded back on should the CF roof didn't fit. I ended up cutting a piece of the roof (Letter/A4 sized) to keep for color matching, in case of accidents.
Cheers, Sunny

the idea of a carbon roof is great but seeing the car get chopped to do it def makes you think of all that could go wrong

IND did my CF roof install after hail destroyed the roof on my 2 month old M2C; they did an amazing job.

Now there’s a idea! I’d imagine you were about even after the Insurence? Now I’m thinking 🤔 how to get the hail to hit only the top! Hmmm. Maybe a hood and deck lid for the trifecta! |
