And they just developed the 7 speeed MT for the C7 few years back and now they can't reuse it?

Now I'm disappointed in GM. If you can't get a rear wheel drive, manual, naturally aspirated V8 car from US where can you get one? THIS is GM's core competency.
For anybody who's interested, here's a 145pg thread where the whole topic is discussed ad nauseamm by Vette customers:

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but the C7 manual can’t be used either since you need a transaxle for the mid-engine C8? Probably some packaging constraints too so it may need to be a brand new design too or adapt the DCT?

More development cost they probably could not justify if the volume is not there. Just a guess, no idea how many manual corvettes are typically sold.

the main reason for no manual is low take rate. Business wise no point in spending the money to develop a manual and crash test it if no one buys a manual new.

It sucks but its understandable. On the bright side...it'll keep cars like the m2 and M series values higher in the used market since its one of the few cars left offering 3 pedal manuals.

I've seen the argument that the first couple of years of corvette sales are always like this, with the enthusiasts flocking to the vehicle and frequently ordering M/T transmissions. After a year or two, the casuals come and order mostly autos.

I don't know if this argument really holds water, but it's worth considering.

All this discussion about the C8 being a "killer" of this car or that car, but zero comparisons to the Shelby GT350? Prices will be very similar. Many Ford dealers are still charging a good premium for the GT350, especially the R variant.

I would hope a 2 seater with almost 400lbs less weight is faster.

Mustang is functionally a 2 seater. It has back seats like a 911 has back seats.

Its not the number of seats which causes its 0-60 deficit; its its porkiness.

It's almost 300 pounds heavier than an M4 which isn't exactly a lightweight.

Honest to God - I would take my M2 over this new C8 'Vette.

That thing looks like a concept/kit car gone wrong with all of the louvres, holes, vents and other stuff that I couldn't even hazard a guess as to what they are or what their function is.

Plus, I'm 6'5" - getting in and out of that thing would kill me.
And the BMW build quality vs. a Chevy? No thanks.

Just give me a car that looks tasteful, hauls ass and is very comfortable.
That's my M2.

Ok.. so I get your visceral reaction to the C8. You dont like the shape.. aesthetically, it doesnt appeal to you. However the prime reason you give, that 'all of the louvres, holes, vents and other stuff that I couldn't even hazard a guess as to what they are or what their function is' is ludicrous.. To state that you dont appreciate something because you are ignorant of its purpose is in itself ignorance. I assure you that on this car most of what you see is based on design and wind tunnel results.. Being a mid engined vehicle, cooling the engine becomes an engineering feat in itself, accounting for the numerous vents and scoops you see. Theyre not decoration! As for your height, youre making an assumption that may not be valid.. Having the engine behind you gives you more room in the cabin.. Your height MAY be a delimiter, but you dont know that til you go sit in one, if you can find one.. Other folks your height have tried them out and fit better than the current C7, but I agree, big fellers generally want a bigger car. However, if you can fit in an M2 and have enough headroom, I believe you could also fit in the C8.

I don't know what brakes do, so therefore I don't like them. Dusty, useless, un-sprung weight

While I wouldn't consider it a beautiful car in pictures I have a feeling it's going to look a lot better in person and regardless of that you think of the angles and scoops, it's going to stand out on the road as somewhat exotic looking in a poor-man's Ferrari kind of way. If the car ends up being as good as advertised one positive should be that it will force the competition to up their games.

It will look a lot better in non-base form (Z06, GS)

In base form the wheels are too tucked in and there is too much fender gap.

Never buy a base form of a sports car. Base models are to entice you and bring in foot traffic and make you think it's affordable , the real magic are in the upper trim levels

Motor Trend Review

For decades, we made excuses for the Corvette's foibles, arguing its performance per dollar trumped all else. The C7 changed that, showing us Chevy could afford to make the Corvette nice, too, in addition to fast. Still, it wasn't as nice as the cars it was beating on the stopwatch.
No more. The C8 is not only powerful, but, dare we say, it's also the most premium-feeling Corvette that Chevrolet has ever made. It's the quickest Corvette to ever roll off the assembly line and up to a stoplight, and it somehow still starts at $60,000. And this is just the beginning.
