Congratulations! You're gonna love it, the black shadow edition is the best looking M2!
I picked mine up 2 months ago, couldn't be more happier! I would recommend getting the MPE for it, with the carbon tips, they compliment the diffusor and the sound is out of this world compared to the stock exhaust. I know it costs a lot, but you got to hear it in person to understand what I'm saying. |

MPE would be great but not in the budget yet. I'm not planning on doing much to this car too soon but early adds are:
- Carbon Fiber Rear Spoiler - AFE Drop In Air Filter - Dinan Straight Res Pipe Delete (Maybe, don't want to make the sound obnoxious). Thoughts?

If it's anything like the "Performance Edition" it would be around 62k for the manual version.. The same price as the new M2C.. |

Hey one question on driving modes. I've been reading a lot and it is confusing. My question is this.
If you are in Sport + and you press the DSC button once, does this put the car into MDM mode or is it already in MDM mode if you are in Sport +?

Everything is its own mode. You can't combine modes, even though it seems like you would be able to. DSC off is its own thing and can't be combined with anything else.

Comfort and Sport I get. I get that Sport + and MDM are different but when would I use each of them? I will track the car and I have absolutely no interest in drifting. Is Sport + my daily and back road aggressive drive mode and MDM for the track? Also, I read there there is a secret exhaust gurgling mode. Two actually. Not sure what this means in terms of modes. 1. Power one, engine off. One Press DSC. Accelerator to floor and then start and more exhaust noise is made. 2. Turn car on. From comfort mode hit DSC once and more exhaust noise. Haven't tried either yet. I will experiment for sure.

There's little use trying to explain a mountain of information to you before you even have the car. You'll figure most of it out on your own and the rest you'll pick up incrementally after you take delivery. Like you said, you'll experiment.
Long story short: Comfort - You'll use this when you're hungover or when the wife/gf is in the car Sport - When you want a little "oomph" but need full traction (maybe it's very wet outside) Sport+ - Backroads + Track (no drift) - If you're like me you'll use this 99% of the time MDM - When you want to make lots of noise at low speeds around town - Not suitable for the track. You'll see what I mean. DSC OFF - Burnouts + Track (drift) You can refer to this chart to see what settings each mode controls: |

To summarize further...
"MDM" is the stupid terminology in the manual for what they should call "DSC half-off." It gets confusing because in some places, the "TRACTION" mode is also called "MDM," which doesn't really make sense since "MDM" is supposed to mean "M Dynamic Mode." The throttle and steering mappings in "TRACTION" are equivalent to Comfort mode, so calling it "MDM" is kind of a farce. Basically: short press traction control button = driving in snow / sand / mud (you want some wheelspin allowed but you also want a dampened throttle), or you want to make a lot of noise ("hidden pops and bangs mode")... long press traction control button ("DSC OFF") = only way to drift Sport+ = combination of Sport and short press ESC, but throttle is artificially overboosted After driving around in Comfort or even Sport, Sport+ can feel pretty crazy. What's even more insane though is how much traction control is still interfering even in "MDM" / half-off in Sport+. When you try giving it some good throttle in DSC OFF mode, it's surprising how much more power the car has to give, especially in 1st... but you'll just end up sliding the ass / spinning the tires, so it's understandable why it is intervening.
