Sold for $1,760,000. Such a beautiful car. I’d just love to drive one for a few miles to see how it feels.

Maybe... I wonder if it would be the "don't meet your heroes" thing? Obviously I'd love to own it, and I'm sure a drive would be incredibly fun, but... it might also by modern standards be pretty bad? Just wondering, can't really say of course.

I have a friend that had an original RX7. Even with lots of new bushings and things, though fun to drive, it was sort of a sloppy mess.

Probably very true. Key would be to go in with low expectations of the driving dynamics and just enjoy the style and wind in the hair aspect.

Pretty much this, these should (only) be appreciated as rolling art, as technology moves on and takes no prisoners.

Absolutely!

I get the rolling art thing, but I think there is still tons of enjoyment driving older cars and appreciating them for what they were when they were new and the best on the road. It’s not fun to make them go head to head with modern iron.

I can recognize that mentality, it's a good one to have. Unfortunately, for me, I'm too practical, e.g. I was lusting after a F355 for the longest time, but if I did pull the trigger, I'd be very disappointed after having spent $$$$$$ when some run-of-the-mill GTI could probably run it off the road haha. That's something I personally wouldn't be able to shut off.

EDIT: ok, who am I kidding? If I did get the Ferrari, I'd probably be able to turn it off, that thing is gorgeous haha.

I sure that if I were to drive this car the steering wheel would be very shaky because if I were driving a car worth 1.77MM on the road I would be shaking. You need a big set to drive on the roads with the idiot drivers I see.

Driving dynamics are not what any car older that fifteen years is about. Still, this unusual looking BMW does look very nice, if slightly dated.

Instead, old cars are about...whatever the buyer feels they're about. And therein lies the rub, the joy, and the expense. It's a triple win for sellers, and for buyers...sometimes...mostly? Who knows!

There's no feedback like a well-sorted 2002tii driven at its limits, lifting wheels, and making the driver a better driver. And that goes for an E30 M3, too. I have fond memories of discovering that car—the very first we ever got—while driving it home the day it arrived. I'm happy to have had that experience and to remember it so clearly today. And yet every day I drive new BMWs as part of my job but it's the drive home in my 128i M-sport stick that puts a smile on my face. Different strokes.

I have a good friend who is a Porsche fanatic and he is an ardent believer that you cannot be a diehard or even truly appreciate your modern machines without starting at the beginning. You start by buying, or at least driving, the original and then work your way through the generations. This is the way.
