I am not 100% sure on how BMW version their software, so you could be right about being 13 versions behind!

Can someone with more insight to step forward and clarify this?
I mean, I have always been told that if there's nothing wrong with your car, there's no need to update to the latest software. Hell there are people in my country making a living off telling people how good it is to have the GTS transmission software and all these and that, then charges close to 2k US$ to run all these through. IMO if you want to go faster, get ECU tuned or take some race driving lessons... |

But yes, if you are considering doing this to gain more speed, then this isn't the way to do it! A tune is the only real way of doing it as you rightly say. Doing these I-Level (I-Step) updates is not dissimilar to updating the firmware on a mobile phone, usually you get better features, more stability etc, after an firmware update. But as we know, thats not always the case! Sometimes updates can cause more problems. I've read about people noticing improvements after I-Level update, but also some have claimed that the car is not a noisy as it was before the update. I am referring to the pops and bangs from the exhaust in this case. One thing that some may not know about programming, some modules have a limited number of times that they can be programmed, the DME in particular has a limit. I dont know what the limit is. Also, these I-Level updates can be downgraded, so if an update causes more trouble than good, it can be resolved. My car is currently on F020-17-03-505, which is from the factory, and the latest available I-Level is F020-17-11-530 via ISTA/D. I really don't feel the need to do the update at this time. I am happy with the way the car is performing. Apart from the stupid PDC sensor beeping issue!!

lax01 pro tip, don't need E-Sys launcher to do Flashing as you don't need token to generate TAL. Only for CAFD modifications.
Generally its recommended to run E-SYS in standalone mode when flashing also, just make sure esys is a fresh install launched with e-sys launcher, or you manually increase memory. There's also other ways to get around the timelock on E-Sys launcher, but I won't get into details. Personally I'll be supporting Tokenmasters efforts with donating to charity =)

How long is your I-level updates taking to complete?
And is anyone using a power supply for the battery?

Yes. DO NOT FLASH without power supply that can deliver at least 25A. Or use a secondary car with engine running and make sure battery is at least 80% charged.

Before I had a standalone PSU I would do this yes, but only when I'm sure the battery is above 90% state of charge. Now I use a standalone PSU after charging the battery.

So now you are all flashing your own DMEs, for this placebo boost effect of clearing the adaption values? There are easier ways to clear them without compromising your computer by doing it yourself. Unreal. Good luck to all of you brave souls.
