M2C MPE mini-review and sound clip

I took delivery of my M2C last week here in South Africa (no OPF ) and I had the dealer install the MPE so here are my thoughts on it:

First off, visually the MPE looks better in person than it does in pictures. You have to be really low to the ground to the see it hanging (or standing pretty far back) and even when you do see it I think it looks way better than the original exhaust. It looks like it's meant to be there whereas the original exhaust looks out of place, maybe it's the shape and the 'ridges/indents' in the original which contribute to the 'udder' look. I'm keen to see how it looks after some time and when the titanium starts to get some colour.

Now on to the sound. Personally I'm really, really happy with the sound. It has a depth and bass to it that I love. Unfortunately it doesn't come through on videos but I have attached a short clip from inside the car (this was recorded in an underground parking). I'll try get some more recordings in the coming days. I'm also not revving it all the way since I'm still in the break-in period.

When driving at low speeds and letting off the throttle the exhaust has an amazing "rumble". I think that's the best way to describe it, it doesn't burble but rather it rumbles instead and it sounds glorious. You can also hear the exhaust from inside the car when the windows are up so that's great. As you climb up the rev range the 'metallic' S55 sound does come through (and it's starting to grow on me) and you get some awesome sounds on upshifts. I can't wait to hear it at 6-7k RPM and when the exhaust has run in a bit more.

I wish I could provide a comparative review, but unfortunately I haven't heard any other systems in-person. I hope this was helpful to some!

WOW. That sounds nice!!! EDIT: I can't stop replaying the video!

Let us know if it drones crusing on the highway at ~2,000-3,000 RPM like the OG M2.

Have you disabled the ASD? Unlike the OG M2, I found it extremely loud and obnoxious in the M2C. Only asking b/c you said that the recording is from "inside" the car.

There's no drone at all. If you look at the exhaust diagram attached, you can see that when the flaps open it bypasses the silencer completely. So if you're in comfort it goes through the silencer and it's quiet with no drone.

I haven't disabled ASD but that was with the window down, I assure you that sound that it recorded was all from the exhaust and not the speakers

I really like the sound, but on the other hand really detest the looks. The can shouldn't be visible at all!

Sure, here it is. It's quite different between the two modes.

Hey, any more impressions of the M2C MPE? Does it sound as deep at low revs and throughout rev range as the OG M2 MPE? Also with the M2C MPE, I assume there is no separate Bluetooth controller for the exhaust valves? I currently drive a 2018 LCI with MPE. Considering upgrading to the M2C, but sound is very important to me - no M2C around with MPE to hear in person. Cheers

It is deep at low revs but does have the S55 'sound' as you go up the rev range as you can hear in the clip. I'm really happy with the sound and I came from an M235i with DP and exhaust so I'm familiar with the N55 sound. If you could find an M4 Comp with MPE I think that will give you the best idea of how the M2C MPE sounds (I haven't heard them side-by-side though).

As for the valves, they are controlled via the efficient/sport/sport+ settings and will open depending on that. There is no button to override them.

Noticed a M4 at the train station the other day. The exhaust hangs exactly the same as the M2C.

EDIT: should have said stock exhaust.

To me it sounds like M2C has the completion exhaust.

I like the look from the back now with the MPE (vs the stock can). I guess it might bug some, but not me.

Honestly the MPE muffler doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. My biggest issue is the gap between the tips and the diffuser. The tips hang way too low IMO.

Sorry, should have said stock exhaust. I personally do not like the "M Performance" branding, but I could see that growing on me

Sound great! Does your car have GPF or not?

Edit----------------------------------

Just noticed you mentioned at the beginning no GPF.

From your video, it sounds similar to M3/4C on the MPE (which is not bad outside of upper rev range), but even more refined to my ear.

Aside from crackles, do more top end rev please. I'm hoping the S55 in M2 form has less raspiness as found on just every single M3/4.

That being said, already a great sounding system as is, by today's standard.

Just went out for a quick spin and got some clips of the top end, this what you looking for? I definitely think it has less raspiness, and the crackles right at about 7k are pretty awesome.

Definite improvement over stock and looks better IMHO.

Still pricey though...
