Maybe, but car collectors collect MT cars. Also you pay less for new MT M2s so when selling later factor in the money saved at purchase. I don't think DCT cars will have the stigma of the SMG and there will be buyers who prefer the DCTs in the future, but if you want to keep more money in your pocket go MT.

I went DCT because it's going to have at least partial daily duties in LA!

Hmm, to put this into perspective there were over 11,000 Ford Bronco's made in their first year (1967), over 20,000 built in 1976, and over 30,000 for their last year of 1977. And in the last 10 years or so they've become highly sought after.

You mean to tell me I only need to hold onto this car for 40 years to earn my money back?

Seems like a solid investment to me.

Buy one in 39 years, I guess haha.

Edit: Because of inflation it's not so good of a deal though. $8000 for new Bronco in 1977 is $34k now. Probably get a good one today for $40k or so. So maintenance and storage needs to cost under $6000 over 40 years to make a profit. So yea, best to buy a M2 39 years from now where someone else did the maintenance haha.

Thanks for posting these. Wow so more than 28000 M2s made and almost 7000 of those sold in the US? That's waaaay higher than any early estimates. I remember before the M2 had come out there were articles that only 10,000 would be made globally. It sucks for people who paid MSRP (or more) that they made so many. It won't really be 'rare' in any way...

LCI-pre-LCI doesn't really matter they are still N55 M2s. The total production number for the M2 will also likely double after the S55 M2 (also NOT limited production).

It seems as though the F80 M3 will have lower production numbers than the M2.

Of course none of this matters if you just drive your car and don't worry about the noise!

I think this is the key takeaway. I am going DCT because I'll probably end up putting 15-18k miles a year on the car in LA (I am planning a 3000 mile road trip to Yellowstone next May).

It's really a value proposition for me. I'm getting a $61,360 M2 for $56,300 plus TTL. For the same money I could get an equally equipped 3 or 5 series. While I can't really do the stick on a daily basis anymore, I can still handle a somewhat jarring ride. So, relative to those two porkers, it's a total win. Just in case anyone is wondering, even the tiny 2 is infinitely practical. We had 3 guys, two snowboards and a pair of skis plus all our luggage in my buddy's M2 for President's Day at Mammoth this past winter. Caveat, I did not have to sit in the back!

Is there sales by country data?

Keen to know how many M2 (F87 + F87 LCI) were sold.

I knew 2017 quota was 550. Based on per 1m figure it should be around 1300-1400.

Interesting that MGM was the least spec’d color. I wonder if this contributed in any way to the decision to discontinue it for the M2C...

Ironically here on bimmerpost the MGM photo thread is currently the most viewed “official color thread” despite the build numbers showing otherwise.

3,627 RoW RHD M2 LCI

Add them all together to get 29,470.

Almost 15,000 N55 M2's produced in total. And to think all of if those stealerships that charged markups on these cars and the poor people who paid those markup prices. This is why you should never pay a dealer markup fee.

I know right. I've gotten tired of even responding to the people that say " it's not limited " .

When I tell them that the production is TINY.. they say... yeah.. but it's " not limited". A mere 3000 sales of a vehicle annually in the US and they say... " not limited "

I've no idea where you are going with that.

There were 6300 1M made in a single year and 740 came to the states.

30,000 M2 made across three years is a very modest 30% increase in production. With 5800 across three years brought in to the US that's UNDER 2000 M2 sold here a year.

Any M2 is pretty much a collector item.

Thanks for all the work and snooping to put the production data together. A few thoughts.

The Perf Edition is likely going to be worth money due to low production numbers

The overall M2 sales figures represent those of us interested in a more pure BMW that gets back to original roots while being modern/performance focused

Still low enough numbers to be a classic one day - especially since production has ended and the new BMW cars are heading in another styling/design direction (common platforms and drivetrains)

I'm glad I got a 6MT. These variants will be gone soon across the BMW line.

For one thing I highly doubt that anybody who bought an M2, whether at MSRP or even above, is poor emotionally or financially. They probably have both money and the joy of driving the car. For another, be honest and tell us for how many seconds you stopped and experienced genuine empathy or sadness for the "poor" complete strangers who may have paid a mark-up to get the M car they wanted when they wanted it.

You're not wrong. Fortunately, while it does take effort and patience to wade through the crap, there are some seriously knowledgeable and experienced people here that make it worth hanging around.

If I'm understanding the production numbers correctly, there are only 476 M2 LCI in LBB with 6MT in the United States. So I have one of only 476 LCI cars with a manual in LBB. That means you have a better chance of seeing a Porsche Carrera GT today than you do of seeing the car in my garage. That means that if Ferrari sells as many 488 in Europe in June as they sold in May, they will have sold more 488 in just Europe alone through just the first 6 months of the year than will ever exist of my car across the entire planet. Sounds like I may have found myself a keeper.

Were there really only 150 2017 Performance Edition cars made and all for USA?
