M2 Jacking ?

Is it safe to jack - support the front - engine using the `dome` in the structural reinforcing plate ?

Included pictures found whilst searching the Forum ... E39 - E90 - M240iX

Garage List
Yes. As you can see from the row of bolts on either side of the dome, the dome is right overtop of the front cradle/subframe crossmember which supports the entire front half of the vehicle. The dome is specifically designed as a jacking point.

I’ve used that dome to get the front up a few times. Don’t want to hijack but what are folks using for the rear jacking point?

The rear subframe as outlined here:https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1629416

Make sure you use a robber pad so the paint on the rear subframe ain't scratched, because if it is you now will have a corrosion risk.

No, the m2 diff cover is aluminum and has fins on it, it's also a bolted on cover not a solid part of the diff. This soft aluminum and protruding fin construction is easily damaged so do not jack from the diff. The m240i has a solid steel diff case so it's stronger and can be used as a jacking point.
