Best dashcam/data app setup for track days
Hey all just want to get a thread going to find out what people are using to capture video and data on track. I'm currently using Harry's and my iPhone but the 6s+ is so big and heavy the vibrations make the video almost unwatchable.
So what is everyone's favorite setup? |

For video I'm using a mirror mounted dashcam. For data recording I use Racechrono app with OBDLink MX bluetooth dongle and with VBox Sport for accurate GPS data.
Then I can overlay the video with the desired parameters with Dashware software. |

For video, I use this and a go pro, which I've been happy with:

I'm using a GoPro for video with a similar mount to what dvas linked. Noticed his link says the product is unavailable. Here is the one I have:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 That will solve your shaky video if you combine the GoPro with Harry's you should be happy. I also use an Aim Solo, and I tried the M Laptimer concurrently last month. Did not love the M Laptimer, so I think I will use Harry's as well. If I want to share video it is simpler than DashWare, which I occasionally use as well. |

As another reference point, here's the one I got that I am pleased with so far for my GoPro Hero 5 Black:

GoPro and Harry's here as well. Do note that Harry's says its only compatible up to up the Hero 5 Black Edition so if you get the Hero 6 there may be a few issues. I ran with the Hero 6 and noticed that after 3 laps it stopped syncing the lap data to the video but that was easy enough to take care of manually afterwards.

I use a Garmin Virb and a headrest mount similar to those linked above. The Garmin has GPS and accelerometer built in and I think you can connect it to a bluetooth ODB reader but I haven't.
The Garmin GPS isn't super accurate so I have Harry's running on my phone with a DUAL GPS for more accurate lap timing. |
