Everything else is so perfect! Perhaps cold start delete is the only solution..
I agree that if I every actually flashed the car, I’d delete the cold start and things would be fine. Flaps closed is still bareable for the 10-15 seconds that it bellows the cold start sequence, but after that it’s really glorious to listen to, resonators or not.

Thank you OP, this thread is beyond helpful.

I read that Valvetronic has fixed the new batches, has anyone received one of those and can confirm?

Well, while debating whether to bench unlock and tune my 2020+ (mainly for coldstart delete) I was advised against coldstart delete, as apparently it has caused some CEL. From what I know this was not common in the past, but maybe something with the 2020+ unlocks? Anyways, didn't want to bother with any potential issues, not to mention warranty, so I went back to the resonated pipes. Going to miss the 5K+ howl a bit, but also glad it sounds much cleaner and refined.

I saw Active also has new Gen 2 EL midpipes with resonators built in (which looked smaller than the resonators on the connecting pipes) so thought this may be a split between the Resonated vs Unresonated connecting pipes, but I would say marginal and not worth the time and effort to try out...

Or is it..?? lol

Anyone tried both the Gen1 and Gen2 EL midpipes?

You read my mind!!

I’m actually inquiring now about getting the Gen2 Swap through Active, where they charge me a deposit until I install and return the Gen1…. I may go that route over the winter and report back.

Garage List
My setup is AA GESI hi-flow cats, AA EL midpipe w/ resonators, and remus race axelback.

OP's analysis of it is spot on. The startup is a bit rowdy for a "daily" but if you(r neighbors) can deal with the 30 seconds or so of it being loud, then I think it's fine as a daily.

With valves open right after start there is A LOT of rasp and it sounds horrible. Closing the valves basically solves this and in the case of a daily, you're most likely going to be leaving the house with valves closed anyway.

With valves open and a significant load on the engine (i.e. extra passengers/heavy luggage or going up a steep incline) there is some (in my opinion) bearable drone around 3000RPM. Again with valves closed this is barely noticeable.

Basically, if you can get over the cold start noise, this is a great setup. Unless you plan to go catless - in that case go with the remus sport. Efficient mode/valves closed for daily putting around town and Sport+/valves open for weekend fun.

hmmm i wonder how the remus race would sound with AA's new gen 2 eq resonated midpipes with the resonated link pipes?. might just be enough to tame it down a bit for day to day...

I think this would sound very similar to Gen 1 equal length unresonated + Remus SPORT, maybe just a tad louder.

Just to update, I have gone to the Gen 2 AA EL (which has resonators buit in), resonated connecting pipes, Remus Sport.

This by far is one of the most conservative setups, and does not have that aggressive high RPM howl that the Gen 1 unresonated+Remus Sport had. It DOES have a tolerable cold start, OEM-like exhaust volume, and less attention from potential tickets (Which is what I need at this time)

To make things easier for anyone new, I would start from the Gen 2 EL midpipes unless you are looking for maximum volume, rasp, and/or rowdiness. I think it cleans up the sounds quite a bit, and you can control the volume with the axleback piece, whether its Remus, MPE, AA, etc. You can even fine tune even more with picking a resonated vs unresonated connecting pipe.

Any sounds clips of the new setup?

No but honestly I dont think it will show the small difference. If you liked the Gen 1 + Resonated pipes + Remus Sport, but have any very particular needs of a super quiet or completely rasp-free system, getting the Gen 2 will help.

Otherwise, I'd recommend the Gen 2 + Unresonated pipes + Remus Sport (or Race for a little more volume). My current setup just doesnt elicit the same level of excitement as the more aggressive setups.

have you tried this combo yet?

I have a similar set up, but with the Eisenmann valved sport. This makes it tolerable with catted DP's as well.
