It sounds outstanding, I wish he did a slower speedo run, like 60-130

Anyone else cringe when that thing farted after it shifted? Is this now a requirement for all M cars?

Yes, I would love to hear it idle past those 30-35 seconds to see if it simply quiets down to almost nothing like our 235's do...or did in my case.

Vids stopped at near those 30 second levels. The "open road" sounds though, did redeem things a bit more.

It is definitely eye-brow raising. I think it's attributed to the exhaust valve system causing abrupt changes in flow/acoustics: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=979417

Could also be exaggerated by the DCT.

We don't know how level the ground was in the video. Don't think this is conclusive.

The rear fenders of the black car while in the garage did not look like the fenders from the new M2

Good question. The one major difference between the F8x and M2 is that the exhaust on the F8x is a dual system all the way from the turbos and back to the rear muffler, while the M2 has a single exhaust all the way from the turbo to the rear muffler.

There are one or two aftermarket exhausts for the F8x that also use a single exhaust and that changes the tone of the exhaust quite a bit.

The E46 M3 also has that metallic raspy sound the F8x has, which other straight six BMW's doesn't really have. E46 also has a dual exhaust system...

M4 with BMS prototype single mid pipe exhaust:

Both sound bad..

Do 6MT M3/M4 also fart on upshifts, or only DCT?

Not sure. I would imagine the fart is there if you shift ultra-fast with the 6MT under full load. Now the question is, does the 1M have flatulence?

Lordy quit stinking up this thread that holds beautiful sounds with that S55 exhaust nonsense. Ugh that engine just sounds SO bad. Great car, 100% ruined by the sound.

It sounds very good but it doesn't sound special. It sounds good in the same way that a N54/55 sound with PE.

No it doesn't sound anything like this. It's only DCT/auto cars now.

Sometimes I like it but can't get the fart thing out of my head every time I hear it now lol

nope....no flatulence on the 1M.

just a smooth, roaring inline 6....on the quieter side stock, but with beautiful tone.

I do think the farty thing is really a part of the dual clutch setups though....which doesn't pertain to the 1M

How many times do you bang your 1M each day?

Good to know it's a DCT thing. I'm not expecting miracles overall because almost every turbo engine lacks the higher frequencies and harmonics of the NA versions. N54 and N55 don't sound bad but they do not sound anywhere near as good as S54 (Z4M stock exhaust - low rasp) or Porsche 9A1 if we're comparing 6 cylinder engines.

It's stock. Because my friend has also heard what the M-PE sounds like on the M2. He just has not had the chance to video it = Yet!

Yup sure does. On the M3/M4 that is. Not sure what it will be like on the M2.
