M2CS Rear Spoiler

Considering purchasing and installing the M Performance M2 CS CF rear spoiler. However thought I recall reading that it is recommended to also install a front splitter/spoiler if installing the rear spoiler I assume due to relative front end lift (?).

Thoughts and how much does the larger rear spoiler throw off the balance? To be honest, considering the CS spoiler purely for cosmetic reasons. Given where I live I am rarely above 65 mph. Most of my driving is twisty backroads below any significant speeds.

Appreciate the insight from the forum

I have only the CS rear spoiler on and don't notice any balance issues, but like you, am largely driving below 65. I too wanted it for aesthetic reasons and am very happy with the result.

Seems like a toss-up between 100+mph front end grip in corners and scraping your front end everywhere you go? :

I only have the MP rear spoiler and recently tracked my car hitting 130+ on straights and 110+ in corners. Never noticed anything that left me believing I needed the $1300 front spoiler for any sort of balance/control. I highly doubt you will notice any difference at all with just either installed. I'm pretty sure it is about 98% marketing, and 2% fact. Just my opinion.

Seemed far fetched but I know that in the original BMW M Performance instructions dealers where instructed to only installed the more aggressive rear spoiler if a front spoiler/splitter was also being installed. I suspect it would come into play (if at all) only at extremely high speeds

If all that was the case then the M2CS Cup cars would have to have a way different front splitter to balance the aero from that wing they run, and even then the one they do run is a plastic version of the carbon splitter.

So, sounds like really just marketing and sales pitch from BMW for the sale of more upgrades. Thanks to all for their input. Have a great day.

Speaking in terms of ascetics only, I wasn't a fan of my CS spoiler when it was first installed. Something just didn't sit right with me and I was heavily considering switching to the M Perf one. After getting an aftermarket CS Lip, I've grown to like the CS shape and overall look now . Could be a placebo effect but just my .02

I'm in the same boat, is it easy to self-install the spoiler?

I was onboard to get the CS spoiler also till I saw it in person. Dam that things huge. I ended up going MP version. To me it works better with the rear. I could just be getting old to. Lol.

Seems easy enough. The hard part seems to be taking the OG off without any damage and dealing with that damn og sticky stuff. EAS did mine for $150 removal and install.

I’m also planning to add the CS spoiler in the near future. Any of you who have already added it have some good pics to share? Some say it is huge but most of what I’ve seen are pics from the back looking forward. May help to see pics from the side and looking from the rear window back towards the rear to get a feeling of the size.

Ohh… I thought you can just use an auto tape and apply it over the M2C factory tiny spoiler. So, I would need to take the factory one out and then apply the CS CF spoiler is it? Makes sense…

Yes. Used fishing wire to remove the stock one. Then 3M double sided tape for new one. BMW officially recommends Betalink, but I get the sense that most ppl here go the 3M route.

Here are a few shots. I personally don't think it is too big. It's very similar to the m performance spoiler except for the lower middle section.

The double sided 3M tape worked quite well for my CS spoiler. Didnt want the issues with Betalink should I choose to do a different piece later. No issues with weather, speed, strength from last fall when I first installed as long as I had it.
I will use it again for my new one.

Thanks cb804! That looks great and I don’t think it looks too big at all. Looks like you need the rear carbon fiber diffuser to pull it all together. The M Performance udder really cleans up the back end.

Thanks @cb804

Looks fantastic. I have the M performance CF rear diffuser and after market black chrome tips on a flat black painted udder. Took the plunge and ordered my CS spoiler yesterday. Like the look of your exhaust as well.
