Just joined the club 2018 M2 LCI

I've been driving a non-modified 2016 CWP STi for the past 5 years as a daily driver. I ordered it as a base with options (nav, harmon kardon, front lip) and I have really enjoyed it (especially on b roads). I felt like I was ready for the next chapter and had been looking at 2018 models for the past few months. For a number of reasons I prefer the OG M2 over the M2C and had my mind set on finding a non-modified, low mileage, 6MT car.

I found one up in MN on cars.com with 9K miles on it and worked out what I thought to be a great price for the car and my trade. It was LBB which wasn't my first choice but the car looked exceptionally clean and I was willing to drive for a good low mileage car. I put a deposit on it and planned to get it over a two day trip last week (11hr each way). The day after placing a deposit I was looking online on truecar and it returned some cars that didn't show up on cars.com.

This car only had 3500 miles on it, looked immaculate, and it was closer to me (6hr each way). So I reached out to the dealer and we negotiated. I wasn't able to get the price as low as the car in MN but I was willing to pay a little more for my time and the shorter drive. I got my deposit back on the car in MN and traveled to OH last Friday to check this car out. I'm happy to say that the car was exactly what I was searching for and even still has a new leather smell inside it lol. I took it on a test drive and then signed on the line!

I'm very excited and happy to be part of the club. This is my first BMW/German car so I have a lot to learn. I'm doing typical newbie ish, like
searching under the hood for a good 10 minutes trying to find the dipstick lol. The Nissan dealership I bought the car at didn't know anything about it so I'll take any tips you guys have!

Sorry for so many pictures but I'm pretty excited!

Yes, very different and in a good way. I had a 6 hr highway trip home and it was a joy to cruise on the highway with. I have read people on here complaining about highway noises in cabin so I was expecting it. After driving for awhile it is apparent that those people have never driven an STi on the highway

One thing you should do is to either bypass or code out ASD. Your driving pleasure will be much improved.

Nice car. Congratulations.

Hell yeah, welcome to the club. Love the color, I think its the best one BMW put on the car personally. Like you, it was my first German car (I came from a 350Z) and its weird to me that people complain about the M2 being loud on the highway because, oh man. Orders of magnitude more refinement than the Z had....

Another driver baffled at the absence of a dipstick

Welcome to German engineering. You'll be astounded when having to pull the door latch twice to get out of the car.

Check your oil using the iDrive menu > vehicle status. The car will tell you when you need to add a quart as well...it's quite nerve wracking when the message presents itself with an obnoxious bell ring while you're cornering at 70mph.

Congrats and enjoy the hell out of that car. I can't get enough of my LCI, an absolute great feeling being behind it's wheel.

Cheers

Congrats OP! LBB wasn't my first colour of choice either, but I did end up with it and I love it! Never owned a car that wasn't black or white, and I'm really shocked at how much I actually enjoy it. With that being said, MG is a beautiful colour and is so underrated. Enjoy!

So I haven’t really been able to drive it since I brought it home due to working remotely. I went out for a bag of dog food tonight and I took a couple of scenic back roads on the way home just so I could get some time behind the wheel. Man, I really love this car!

I have had BMWs since 1971. This is by far the most enjoyable BMW I have owned. And this isn’t my first M car.

I am sure you will have some fun with it once the covid restrictions are lifted.

Same here Dan - this is my 5th M and definitely the best by far - last one was an e39 M5. This M2 - far better in every way.

Thanks for the heads up. You are referring to the instrument cluster screen right (not the nav screen)? What do you recommend cleaning it with?

If this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

doesn't quite get the dust, I use a *very* slightly damp microfiber towel and *barely* skim over the cluster.

It scratches *that* easy.

I think this issue is over blown, i just use a micro fibre towel, simple wipe and i dont notice any scratches,

Just dont push hard when you wipe and you should be good, ( and i take care to not use the edges of the towel when i do )
