Used M2 vs Used M2C Thoughts

I'm looking to get some ideas/opinions on your thoughts of the M2 vs the M2C. I am currently in the market for a used one as a daily having just sold my e92 m3.
1. With the price of a used M2C around 10-15k AUD more than an M2, is the price justifiable for the s55 engine and m3 seats, more aggressive styling etc

2. N55 vs S55, there is no surprise that alot of people have mixed opinions about the sound of the S55, how do you guys feel, for M2C owners out there is does it really sound that bad?

I've never thought the S55 sounds in any way bad. The N55 just sounds really good. I've got the MP exhaust on my S55 and it sounds pretty bad ass to me, bordering on ridiculous in sport + mode.

Only you can decide if the newer model is worth the addl money. Both are fantastic cars in their own right. Most would consider themselves extremely fortunate to own either.

Great problem to have

I think it depends on how you use the car and want from it. My M2 is a daily driver which is only used for trackdays when a back up vehicle is needed. There would not be any value, for me, in getting an S55 M2 vs an N55 M2. Even if the two cars cost the same, a slightly heavier car that burns slightly more gas wouldn't help me on my trip to the grocery store, for example.

It will help to be realistic about the use of the car and the end goal. If you might end up wanting a high hp build in the end.. S55 makes more sense. If you don't track the car and only use it on roads with speed limits then it may be worth examining the value you're willing to place on a more capable car with capabilities you don't actually use.

I don't think you can go really wrong with either. I would say buy either within your comfortable budget.

I believe the OG is great value and I have seen decent examples that are more like 20k+ cheaper than the current asking on used M2C's.

Agree with the comments here already, they are both good cars.

I'm not a hater of the S55 sound, IMO it's not significantly different to my previous N54 (with the setup it had). It may also be me, but my MY21 sounds different to the '19 M2C I test drove a few times. I really like the fact you have control over the exhaust valve by driving mode, heard but not aggressive in Eco and sport etc livens it up a lot. Yes the N55 sounds better, but I really don't mind the S55. I'm also one of the few that prefers the 788 wheels to the 437's 😃😳

Although it was a while ago I drove an M2, I do find the M2C more "compliant" in its ride. Just as stiff, but not as harsh.

Either way, I reiterate, they are both great!

You definitely want to drive both and I would pay particular attention to power delivery, sound, seats, ride, and lights (some of the M2c you look at may have adaptive LED). Those areas, for me, are where you will notice the most difference and where there is the most disagreement. I think both platforms are great and some will legitimately prefer one to the other. BTW, for whatever reason, the S55 in my 2021 M2c sounds much better than the S55 if my 2018 M3...so definitely check sound out in person.

This, ive noticed it as well. They must have changed something with the 21 S55's, mine sounds different to the '19 i test drove a few times...

Hop on over and give this a read if you haven't yet. It's a good thread (albeit somewhat track-focused) with some well composed view-points/data.

Ultimately depends on your budget and goals. Points to consider:

- $20k will go a long way to transforming a standard M2 - eg. wheels, exhaust, engine mods, coilovers, bodywork

- if you crave big HP the S55 will be the obvious choice. Do remember however, that with two turbos mods tend to cost almost twice as much compared to the OG M2.

- I own the M2 N55, and drove the M2C at Phillip Island. I must say the additional weight was noticeable.

- I really didn't think the seats in the M2C felt that different

- But I do love the carbon boomerang in the engine bay lol

Small personal preferences (and budget) is going to be a factor.
Leaving aside engine etc discussion, M2C has little details like the mirrors, seats, and of course the engine strut brace. Personally I think those things matter.

FYI sound on an M2C is absolutely fine. Most complaining is because people have a fixed idea of what it should sound like, not embracing the individual characteristics. You can make different noises by playing with your driving style, making pops and crackles, or just burbling etc. good fun, especially if it’s a daily drive
