How many miles before you used M2 on track?

I tried this question under a different thread but no responses, so trying again.

I'm planning to do a track day early this summer and will likely only have 3,500 - 4,000 miles on my car by then. Those who have done track time, what mileage did you have on your car and / or what mileage do folks think is safe or reasonable. I don't want to abuse my car. Obviously it depends on how aggressively the car is driven, but hard to do a track day without a little red mist in the eyes.

Must have been boring to keep it under 5500 RPM at the track? Or just ain't care?

Actually I do care! Yes initially I tried to respect the 5500. Not too boring but
after several laps I am sure i exceeded the recommended max rpm.

I did debate whether to do this.... engine breakin requirements are of two camps....drive it as per the BMW manual... drive it like you stole it.... I think most agree that the M-diff requirement breakin is "stricter", more seem to agree to take it easy on the diff, than the engine breakin requirements.

Since the diff was being replaced under the M-diff recall anyway I figured what the heck. Engine had a good 700-750 miles of nonspirited driving prior to the 100 or so track miles.

Tires, PSS, took a beating and were an obvious giveaway with all the marbles and threads still stuck to the rubber. I did have the brake fluid flushed along with the breakin oil change.

Service guys didn't seem to bat an eye. They asked how she did on the track.

Unfortunately because of the diff replacement I have another 1200 mile breakin period.

By that time, your car will certainly be ready for the track! Just go have a good time and learn, your car will be fine. You will not be abusing the car at all - unless of course you are way off on shifting, for some reason. If this will be your first time on the track. I highly recommend you go out with your instructor - in his / her car. Hopefully, your instructor will be driving something like an E36, 228i, etc., it will be a real eye opening experience for you, and you will then start to see why you are not abusing your M2.

BMWs, especially M cars, can take much much more abuse than you could ever imagine.
