Drift

Going to do a drift course this coming Sunday. It will be coldish and damp but am still undecided if I should use my car with the stock wheels/tires (as I do not have time to change anything now) or if I should get one of the rentals - a Milltek 335i E36 - that they can arrange there.

It is a 3 hour thing.

Any thought on this?

Where is it? Lelystad? Weeze/Niederrhein?

If it's wet(or made wet) you can use your $$$ PSS otherwise I'd suggest 'wintertyres' or cheapo Chinese stuff (at the backend)

Cheers

It will be in Lelystad yes. It should be wet, after all we are in the Netherlands. If not they will make it wet.

I'm more worried about the rims, by I guess they will be fine, right? As for the tires, it will be impossible for me to change them prior to the event because I'll most likely go to the Nurburgring the day before and will only be back home late. I need to eventually get a set of track wheels and tires but still didn't have time to think about that and do my research in depth.

Went quite well and was great fun! As it was cold and damp, the tires held ok and did not loose too much tread. Still, the car wants to grip rather than be drifted which makes it a bit of a fight to link the corners without getting all the grip at once and without going through a bit of understeer but more on that soon.

The M2 has so much mechanical grip that it wants to just correct itself and go fast. We took our car out to a local event as well and I was extremely impressed with how much raw mechanical grip it had.

This is Level 1000 though! I am at Level 1 or 2 on that scale :P

Maximum I can do is to hold the drift maybe 80% of the time (some times I end up over cooking it or allowing the car to grip) and then transition to the next corner maybe 20% of the times. I am thoroughly impressed with your (?) skills?

Yes that was me. Thanks for the kind words

If you're just learning, the M2 is a very hard car to learn on. I started in an E36 and IMO they're much easier to transition.

Hard yes, but rewarding when you get it right. Too bad I don't have videos shot from the outside but I believe that my best sequences of turns must have looked good from the outside It sure felt good on the inside. Will edit a video when time allows and you can then look at it and give me a few tips for next time.
