Hard to make a blanket statement about what is heavy vs what is not, but to me, a light car by current day standards would need to be below 3300 lbs.
The E36 had a listed curb weight of 3340.. and that was 22+ years ago at this point... And the E46 was 3415. So it's not like the M2 is all that fat in comparison after all these years if the CS weighed in actual as listed above at 3500. 718 GT4 is 3200 lbs, and the GTS 4.0 at 3166. Miata for lighweight with even the third gen sitting at only 2500...
The curb weight of the current gen 2020 Miata (ND2) is at 2340lbs which is almost the same as the curb weight of 1999 NB Miata (2300lbs). Of course it's a tiny/minimalist car but the point is that some companies still manage to keep the weight figure consistently low over generations.

I thought my 93 was 2200lbs, so they've faired well. I put the kabash on a miata as a DD in charlotte. I wanted something a bit more substantial for safety. Oh yeah, and back seats.

Given the weight and bad Cw (0.37) it is very decent time for the car, IMHO
