The CLA and A/S/RS3 definitely fit in with their brand's lineup more.
I will say that the new CLA I had for a couple days had some major flaws: (1) creaking interior bits on the highway, (2) excess driver side wind noise, (3) fixed headrests.

I'm sure these won't be issues in the BMW.
Oh yeah, the CLA is still a cheaply built mercedes and is built at one of their worst plants, but based plainly on looks its a winner. I would still rather have a Civic or Mazda 3 than spending any sorts of big $$$ on these "entry-level" luxury cars.

I still don't understand why BMW is calling this a 2-series nonetheless a gran coupe.

BMW made a whole big deal that even = coupes and odd = sedans, only to introduce gran coupes. Ok fine, but this at least meant gran coupes would have "unique" or more couple like elements, to which I say, "where does the 2GC reflect this?" If anything this looks like a normal econobox sedan in the worst types of ways (BMW's version of a Ford Focus).

So its neither a coupe nor a 4-door styled coupe, but just a sedan, so... why not call it a 1-series? It would make more sense being that the rest of the world has a FWD 1er hatch, as well as not bring in the confusion of the 2 series nameplate being on both a RWD and FWD based platform, and fill in the gap of BMW NA's lack of a 1-series in their lineup of vehicles.

Loll I'll admit it I would definitely take an entry FWD luxury make over those.

I'm more amazed that the circle K on that corner became a 7-11.

Moved from Edgewater NJ to Pasadena CA in Jan of 2018. Things have changed!

what are you smoking?

Go get a 3 series. It'd be bigger and money better spent than one of these atrocious turds.

I actually went to BMW Welt last weekend just to see it in person...

Unfortunately it's still hideous

The pull to the CLA is the brand/dealer/looks. They clearly went low rent on this car (and forgot to charge low rent pricing).
Style/fit/finish may be nice, but materials quality and feel are, as you say, much lower than the asian brands. Shockingly so when you sit side by side one after the other since your eyes are telling you one is 'better' but your other senses tell you it's worse.

The c class is a bit better, but definitely still behind BMW in the 3 and 4.
Again, the presentation of the car, lighting, layout, may photograph and appear better in the mercedes (and lets be honest, to most people that's the point), but tactile use is inferior (except that self close trunk, looove that self close trunk).

Family just went from an E class to 5 series for this reason.
The E looks waaaay better parked in the driveway and impresses people, but the 5 is just a better machine everywhere from the way the doors close, to the buttons, to the steering, etc. (except back seat is too upright).

I definitely don't disagree, even my CLS in some ways isn't as good as my last 5 series when it comes to interior materials or overall quality, but it puts a much bigger smile on my face and I'm enjoying it much more, so I say the trade off was worth it!

That's interesting as I haven't seen one in person yet. From photos it looks okay but I wouldn't call it beautiful. That said I also don't find it nearly as ugly as some of the over the top comments in this thread.

I will also reserve judgment until I see it in person. My BIGGEST gripe honestly is that the back glass and trunk don't all lift together like the other GC cars. At least for realtor GF that makes getting all her stuff in and out a lot easier. That was the major bummer for me.

The problem isn't really that its super ugly, because it isn't, the problem is more that it has clearly FWD based stubby proportions that don't lend itself well to the design and just looks like every other cheap econobox on sale from Ford Focus, to Chevy Malibu, Honda Civic, etc.

Nothing other than the kidney grills screams "BMW" and even then, some may say the kidney's look more like a Kia grill.

Even a new Mazda 3 is a much more attractive vehicle despite not being a luxury car. Not sure what is going on in BMW's design department right now, but a big change is needed.
