wow...i'm shocked there isn't any tar/adhesive...

I'm still confused where all the weight comes from on the car...why is it heavier than the E46? Are you looking to hit a set weight? The car would be a fucking rocket at 3000 lbs

This is awesome. May want the DSC module from the m235 racing though if you plan on running ABS....

We are shooting for a target weight maximum of 3,000LBS w/ cage, accessories and driver. Hoping the carbon spree will help achieve this.

Door bars , and apparently B pillar bars for more strength. More airbags - head curtain etc , and heavier and more complex wiring for electronics like the dash, blind spot detection , park distance control , I drive, Subwoofers under the seats , a hard drive for backing up streaming data, Bluetooth radios and sensors for comfort access, Apple car play etc , full power in the seats , etc etc..

I guess...then again, Porsche has all those things in the Cayman...for the most part...and its still closer to 3000 lbs than 3500 lbs

It doesn't have crumple zones and additional protection for rear seats/passengers.

I always ask the dumb questions so I'll continue...

why not do this with an M235 lol? or even a 135i? Which would cost fractions and the same could be done since the car is stripped anyways?

Ok well this question is getting old already

The M2 is it's own beast and we are attempting to develop this chassis with the ability to duplicate it and offer some of the components and parts for eventual re-sale, or at least to find the best quality components of those available with an actual motorsports application.

Plenty of fellow members have already developed their M2 for show and light track use, but with the exception of the team running their's in endurance events in Europe, I have yet to see anyone actively racing here in the USA with this chassis.

I have driven an M235iR on track, at speed as was disapointed with its performance. Yes it is already a developed car, for sure. Although- base price is $85K + and I was told from a few of the guys running in PWC that that did not include the homologated, race spec exhaust (it comes with a factory exhaust system) and requires a ton of suspension components to be changed from standard to spherical, yada yada yada.

Also- have you see those hideous bolt on flares?

I think this will have its own special place in the world.

I fully support chopping the m2 and doing a build. There is a lot of information and an amazing journey ahead. Buying an m235iR, while cool, is no substitute. The M2 is a $52k standard production car. This is not a limited car.

M235IR are $90K USD used and you may need to buy the upgrade kit. This m2 build seems more fun.

or actual ** SEATS ** for rear passengers..

Seriously @lax01 put your *thinking* cap on here. you were a lot closer when you referenced the E46 M3 and stayed within the brand .

# BECAUSE VEHICLE ALREADY IN DRIVEWAY

Also... the OP indicated that the M235I RACING has the 8AT ( with no lockup on the torque converter ) however he prefers the DCT..

YES. I have.. Up close in person several times. I have seen the Winding Road race team versions as well as one owned by a racer Antony M.

It's a turn key race car for sure.. but I agree.. the looks ...

I agree with you... I have seen some M2 race vehicles from Europe.. but not aware of anyone campaigning a vehicle in the US.

heck my buddy Ralph Warren is usually the poster boy for running brand new BMWs in BMW CCA..

I am personally interested in an M2 CSL.. that is if BMW AG and BMW NA have the cojones to make one.
I would spend nearly 85K for an M2 CSL (if equipped more like an M4 GTS) much before I would the M235ir.

In addidtion, building the car has got to be an exciting and fun project.

didn't someone weigh the rear seats? Weren't they like 50 lbs? I'm talking about a major weight reduction to get under or at 3000 lbs. The car is way smaller than the M3/M4 and yet its only 100 lbs lighter?

With that said, they all hide their heavy-weight very well
