This is what I have been waiting for. They should have done this sooner. I was just reading some review on https://gardeningfacts.org/best-pres...washer-review/ and I found out about this, this made my day much better.

When will this happen and how?

It's still showing up as $300 fee. My subscription for Car Play has expired. How will I get this service back?

I still have plenty of time left for the Connected Drive Services.

Mine is now showing "This service has been subscribed to your BMW "Wxxxxxx" until 12/15/2038. It can be extended once you are within 3 months of service expiration."

This is a 20 year subscription for the car since I took delivery of my 540i on 12/15/2018, and has updated from last week when I first learned of the change. If you don't see yours updated it will probably happen within a few days.

The announcement only said 19/20 vehicles, 18 and earlier are still wishful thinking at this point.

Considering the early carplay cars had it as a flat $300 option not the subscription model I don't have high hopes.

It will be coming to everyone that has car play provisioning through connected drive.

What is your source material? I read the articles from car and driver, CNET, and autoblog and their quotes from bmw staff only reference 19/20 model years.

Also I am using the USA as point of reference. Not sure about international considering the option/cost structure and legal rules are different.

BMW refunded my recent 20 year CarPlay subscription and my expiration date has been reset back to January 14th. When I called they told me they knew this free subscription was coming, but that they haven't been given any details on it yet. Does anyone know when this will take affect? Thanks.

When I got my X3 in October I had choice of £1 month trial or something like £80 a year subscription.
Now it’s FREE those options have gone and I am presented with a “car play preparation” fee of £255
I feel really annoyed, I didn’t really want car play as I don’t see what’s good about it but for BMW to say it’s now free but my previously car play ready car needs preparation - Bullshit Munich W******

It doesn't apply to 2018 models because CarPlay was a one-time option with the car. People referred to it as lifetime, but it's really 20 years.

I hear what you saying, but to me it makes no sense to exclude owners from model years whose IDrive factory systems already support CarPlay. I believe it is from MY2016 onwards.
