Yeah. I'm already aiming this way myself.

The only current BMW I would get is a X3 and that would be it. Porsche has been more attractive to me because they do not stray from their history much when it comes to driving.

I can complain all I want about Porsche interior and how annoying I find the PCM but least they don't put out crap like this and think it is fine.

E65 was the best selling 7 Series of all time.

They are doing fine financially and they don't care one iota what you or the old guard brigade thinks.

That grill is George Foreman big. It's not exactly ugly but it is clearly trying too hard and thus cringe.

Now if they could explain how they managed to make the new Z4 ugly, that would be something.

Yeah this is the first time I'm ever looking forward to the production version toning down elements of one of the concepts....

5-10% chance they save it with the production version. I'm hopeful they somehow pull it off. 90%+ chance BMW loses me for a generation (after now 14 consecutive years in nothing but BMWs)

Then watch, the F90 LCI will be rad and I'll end up just spending more to buy an M5... so I guess I'm the sucker.

Sales volumes are speaking for themselves.

I am a fan of the large grills.

I like the common interior design language across the brand, however the 760 interior looks too much like the X3. That would disappoint me, if I was a 760 buyer, which I am not. It does nothing for me, for better or for worse, as an X3 buyer, which I am.

Wow! You just described the entire tesla lineup. Platypus! I knew the model 3 looked like an animal, I just couldn't figure out which one. You nailed it!

Also, I didn't realize how much the X looked like an Aztek! Though I think the body panel alignment on the Aztek is significantly better than that on the Model X.

Speaking of Pontiacs, it looks like the design of the 4 series grill was inspired by a 1970 Pontiac Bonneville!

While I am not a huge fan of the new look, I agree that something different was needed. I am not a fan of the F30 styling and much prefer the E90, however I do like the G20 sedan despite it being slightly too similar to a Lexus/Infiniti.

BMW/Audi/MB always had 'edgy' designs, which ended up getting copied by other automakers. It seems BMW is the one copying now, with the lines and the giant grill trend. I wouldn't give up hope, that Bangle 7 series got cleaned up nicely into a clean elegant design when it was refreshed.

Yes it was, but I don't think it sold as many as BMW wanted to.

Despite being the most criticized BMW at launch, the E65 went on to become the best-selling 7 Series, with 343,073 units delivered from 2001 through 2008. However, sales were disappointing compared to the previous E38, which ended its life-cycle with only 2,830 examples less sold. Moreover, the 7 Series continued to be significantly less successful than the S-Class, the indisputable leader of the full-size market.

I've said this before and I'll say it again...if they can tone it down for the production version and have it closer to the Hommage Concept.....we could have a serious winner on our hands!

The world is changing....things are no longer made to western specifications. They are made to cater to a market with a drastically different idea of what looks good on an automobile. Making it worse, they are trying to convince us that the design is "progressive" instead of just being honest about what region the car was designed for.

I actually like the grill. Not getting why everyone is so against it. The current language where kidney connect to headlights is the worst in my opinion. To each his own and finally for me they made the revolution in the front. Too bad they stopped there

For its price and segment, that 2,000+ vehicle difference is huge. At least to me, there is no way I'm looking at the E65 sales and say "it only sold 2,000 more than its predecessor."

At the end of the day, despite the design being highly controversial, I believe it was a first time (in some time?) that it sold more than the S-Class and reviews were more favourable towards the 7er. F01 onwards is when the S-Class took its commanding lead in all aspects.

We can all mock him for what he said but if you really think about it, he's not completely wrong. I'm not going to critique the actual design because that is highly subjective but everyone so far is acting like they never complained about the very thing he said. We all have said that BMW all looked alike and there needed more differentiation - all GXX BMWs are doing exactly that. I don't think you can hate a design and backtrack and say you wish BMW kept its traditional design. Regardless of what happens, people are going to hate it because it's not what they're used to. I'm sure each kidney grille design since the beginning had its fair share of haters/lovers.

Kinda funny, about a month ago when that 4-Series abomination hit I sent a friendly email to BMW customer support concerning their direction in styling. Been a customer for 20 years...blah blah....horrible grills....blah blah....won't be buying anymore....blah blah.

They sent me a nice return email, then a representative followed up a couple days later by phone after I booked a time to talk. They went pretty much by the book trying to explain their direction to me, which I of course appreciated then mentioned off hand "Well if the new M4 looks anything like that, my C8 purchase will be easy to make". He laughed and when I said "I bet you've been hearing that a lot huh?" he demurred.
