My understanding is that the difference between the Evo 2 Performance and Evo 2 Competition is their construction method. The Performance is a bar-and-plate design which is heavier. The Competition is tube-and-fin, which is lighter. This may have an impact on how fast IATs rise, and then how fast they are to cool down again because of the difference in thermal mass of each. However, I understand both are using a 6" core, and so they will behave the same from a lag perspective.

Sounds like competition will be better if you care more about flow

Garage List
Which would be better for track or general daily driving? Also does it matter if you plan on upgrading the turbo?

It's personal preference or what you believe. The performance is 6.4lbs heavier but "might" cool better in some scenarios. You can read more in Mike's excellent write-up here. I went with the competition version.

You should take a look here. A lot of these questions are asked and answered.

Why not the VRSF 5" HD? It's a lot cheaper and has a ton of positive reviews. I'm curious myself why one would spend 2x on the Wagner?

Just installed the EVO II comp last week and I do not feel an increase in lag vs the stock IC. Being 6 MT there is always lag post shift but thats the trade off for rowing my own gears I suppose. Ironically the PWG n55's (135) from mypast did not have anywhere near the post shift lag the M2 has. Even with a pure stage 1. Not sure whats going on with the M2.

Really happy with the of the wagner. I've used ER and ETS intercoolers on past n55's and was happy with them as well but the wagner is as good if not better in fit, finish, and installation. Also if you get the comp its lighter than bar + plate options, and easier to mount with one hand while laying on your back under the car!

Re lag after upshifts have you tried shifting after 6K rpm? With my LCI holding wot passed 6K eliminates any noticeable lag when I go wot after the shift. Shifting earlier there is what seems like a 1 second delay before the car responds to your right foot being pressed against the floor, must be something in the software

I'm looking to upgrade intercooler shortly and was wondering whether EVO II Comp might introduce lag in the manual shifts

Agreed. It's especially pronounced in comfort mode, I find. I will pay attention to shifts above 6k, but usually when I'm WOT, I'm up past 6K anyway.

Can you clarify this statement? There's no advantage what so ever to the Performance model vs. the Competition?

If this is true, don't you think it makes the marketing strategy/offerings from Wagner very suspect. Why would they provide an option that is worse in every way except at a 15% discount (it is actually a 14% discount).

Not sure i understand how you got to this conclusion. Bar and plate is good, tube and fin is better. Why is Wagner offering you 2 options suspect?

They give you both options with bar and plate being cheaper
