Arm-rest in the way for shifting gears?

OK, so I guess I'm late to this party, but I never understood why BMW deleted the arm-rest from the CS...until now. It has never been in the way on my OG M2, but when Misha mentioned it I was like hmmm, I guess that's why BMW did it.

If you came from a 6MT M2 and now have a CS, do you find that you like the console better because it's no longer in the way??

2:34 mark

I like the CS center console myself, but everyone is different when it comes to what ergonomics are the most comfortable.

My OG seat bolster used to get in the way, but I never had an issue with the arm rest. After I started tracking my car, I changed my shift motions to reduce the chances of a money shift, and with those changes I don’t hit anything at all now. The biggest difference is that my hand is mostly on top of the shift knob instead of the side, so I believe my elbow is naturally higher, which means it doesn’t hit anything.

I've never had an issue with the stock console, so I'm sure the CS would be fine.

It's funny, when I had my Comp, I never actively thought the armrest was in the way. It wasn't until I moved to the CS that I realized it was, particularly while shifting more aggressively. In the Comp, I was subconsciously lifting my right arm (almost like a shoulder fly) to give my elbow clearance. Granted, when I was shifting casually, I actually felt it comfortable to rest my elbow on the armrest while throwing the shifter from one gear to the next.

However, in the CS my arm now floats in a more natural position, regardless of my current shifting behavior. It's certainly more comfortable.

I also suspect seat height is a factor. I prefer to be in the lowest possible position.

For sure. Misha is tall as well.

I'm short, so I have no issues.

If the car is to be used on the track most of the times Id do without the arm wrest but for daily-ing it serves a purpose and its not really on the way. I do think it looks better without it and why bmw did it for the cs. Looks better/less weight/gotta make things different a bit

I have both scenarios covered.

I removed the armrest in my E46 M3. Never had it in my previous cars and even the Macan I don't really use the arm rest since my hands are always on the paddles because I'm always in Sport+ on that thing

I don't use the arm rest unless I'm on the highway, but I do like it then.

I haven’t owned a regular M2/c with the armrest but I can say my elbow sits perfectly on the center console in my CS so I would assume it would be to high and in the way for me.

Only downside I have with the CS is my arm sometimes hits the Idrive button.

It's a noticeable improvement ditching the armrest, my arm is more naturally in line with the shifter and not coming in at an angle.

You're tall though? I think it's the taller guys that have the issue with the arm rest.

6'0, so not super tall? I guess torso-to-leg length is probably more relevant.
