With the R400 pulling 3.9 seconds and the TT 420 concept pulling 3.7 seconds 0 - 100 who would want the much slower M2 at circa 4.5 seconds. There would have to be some pretty special features to the M2 to overlook the difference. And anyone that says power / speed is not everything, then go buy a 220i and be done with it, if you're honest its the reason we buy these cars, not the only reason, but major factor. There are plenty of other brilliant cars coming online in the next 1 - 2 years to keep me from locking myself into an M2 at this point. Last edited by Wilson; 05-03-2014 at 11:34 AM.. |

i'd be very pleased with 360-370hp on an M2 and great, great handling with a beautiful singing inline-6 instead of a nasty sounding 4-banger. |

For those claiming a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds from the M2, it is worth pointing out that real world testing of the M235 is ~4.6 sec. I would expect the M2 with a better suspension, transmission and engine to pull a real world time in the low 4s.

I agree. If Motor Trend clocked 4.2 to 60 for a stock 1M with inferior tires and a classic manual and some of our Forum members did 4.4 to 100 km/h (stock) then we can expect better from the M2 especially from the version which will be equipped with DCT. I believe a DCT M2 will flirt with 3.9-4.0 to 60 and will be only slightly behind the F8X in real world performance.

Some of those 0-60 times include a 1 foot rollout which makes the times faster. Just keep that in mind as Motor trend and many other magazines test cars with this. This explains the differences with manufacture 0-60 times and others.

Oh look, the N55 again. What a shocker. As usual, M is ambitious. I predict the M2 will be an overpriced M235i with a body kit, suspension, and engine tune. It will also sell out instantly.

Yes, because that's exactly what the 1M was, right?

Hey look this thread just overflowed with airheads talking out of their asses. Sounds like 0-60 is all anyone cares about. Good grief.

pretty idiotic isn't it? this is why 'car culture' has lost its way these days.....nobody talks about the way a car feels anymore....they just talk about 0-60 and HP statistics like a bunch of empty, shallow, material object worshippers. weak! |

Well generally yes. Some bolt ons, extremely minor revisions in the powertrain, nothing that would upset production schedules with, say, something bespoke as once used to be the case with M division. Did you forget already?

That said, IMO the M4 Coupé is a useless car, not small/compact enough to a nimble rocket pocket, not big or exclusive enough to be a luxurious 4 seater GT, which the M6 Coupé is. All this restricting the full potential of the M2 Coupé. Just my opinion. |

I don't think the M4 is 'useless' per se. It is too large for my tastes, but they've kept the weight reasonably down....it weighs as much or less than the equivalent M235i which is, IMO, a useless car that's too heavy to be a successor to the 1er. I think the M2 has a chance of being a great car......from early thoughts about the new M3/M4 it is also a fun car. Note that the first owner on the F8X M forum is also a 1M owner and thinks the car feels as good as the 1M in terms of steering feel------that is a lofty compliment, IMO. |

First of all, it's a rumor about the N55. I don't see why they couldn't use the S55, but we'll see. But, it's surprising that you've owned/own a M3 and feel that the M2 is just an overpriced M235i? Is that what the E92 M3 is to a 335? And get over the bespoke engine. We won't see it anymore. Also, what other division at the major autos are making better versions of their regular models than the M division?
