Exploded clutch blew apart bell housing

Came across this video of a blown apart M2 bell housing, can't tell if N55 or S55, but pretty crazy:

Just like many of the comments, I wonder how the owner managed this.

Purely abuse

That's what happens when you beat the living daylight out of your car

Impossible to know. Abuse is of course a possibility. Generally though a clutch doesn't blow up it just slips.

And just a component failure can be the cause.

Years ago I had a Dodge pickup in for some work at the dealer. Tech found a u-joint needed replacing. I ok'd this. Got the truck back and after a day or two was just driving on the freeway when the new u-joint failed. It was at the transmission end of the drive shaft. The drive shaft whipped around and hit the tail shaft housing of the transmission and busted the transmission case.

Long story the dealer accepted responsibility for not only the u-joint failure but the considerable collateral damage and replaced the transmission with a new one -- not too long before this I had the original transmission rebuilt -- and replaced the drive shaft and got the truck back on the road at no cost to me.

I was not abusing the truck. Just a component failure.
