Yeah, 3 signs, and multiple conversations didn't suffice. They haven't screwed it up in the 6 years since though.

What was the cost for this via dealer? --> NVM, saw your update at ~$2k.

Does anyone know the part # for the front windshield? The same between all M2 models?

I think my invoice is still on my front seat. I'll see if it has a part number on it. They had to order through the BMW dealership.

Good news is that the shop is paying to replace the roof ppf. I have to credit them that they never put up resistance to paying for it and we're apologetic. They said they just wanted to make it right.

That's the part that was ordered. Yes, it was something like $680 for the glass.

Another devastating windshield hit. Man, if the glass gets hit close to the edge the damage is savage. I just paid to have the damn window tinted again. Lol. I think I'll ride with it a while like this since I can't see it from behind the wheel.

PPF did a great job of saving paint. Only a ver small chip just below the ppf line. I can see where it married the ppf on the pillar.

Windscreen Damage

Hi
Wow that’s serious damage and can we see a larger photo of your windscreen .

Did it penetrate inside the windscreen ?

That’s also a serious replacement/repair job and just be careful who you get to replace your windscreen.

Hope all goes well the new windscreen.

Cheers
Bruce

Yep, and paid the $165 to have this one tinted. Rock kicked up from a different lane and whacked it.

how much was the replacement?
My deductible was $1k, cost about $2k+
Which insurance company did you use? Progressive keeps giving me runaround answers on whether they would honor an OEM replacement

I use Liberty Mutual. Insuring a BMW through liberty mutual gets a small BMW discount, but ensures only BMW parts get used. The glass replacement addon gives me $100 replacement. I haven't tested how many per year on same car yet

1. I can see it

3. Might this start peeling at some point because I use a pressure washer.

I'm struggling with what to do. The spot is tiny. About the size of a penny. My ppf installer is going to try to add a small piece. He doubts the longevity but willing to give it a try.

I don't want to over react. It's going to cost $575 to replace the roof PPF, and probably another couple hundred for the cquartz finest. The installer will likely replace, but am I worried too much for such a small spot?

I feel like if I were paying out of pocket $775 I'd try the patch. On the flip side we pay professionals so they don't f up our stuff. There were some other issues like gunk left on my paint. For a place that does the Porsches and Ferrari dealership work I was disappointed.
To me, it looks like this is how it was installed. I doubt the windshield installer pulled it up and trimmed it like that.

I can 100% say that the ppf on the roof was perfect when installed and was intact prior to window replacement. This is something that I would have noticed right away. It's small imperfection to some, but very obvious to me.

Why haven't you considered ExoShield or ClearPlex at this point?
Does your PPF installer offer this?

$500 install.

Cheaper alternative to everything you have experienced.

The thought crossed my mind. My brother swears by diamond-fusion for his windshield. I think that's a coating and not a film, but I haven't looked into it. At this point I think it's really worth a look. I've read that the films get chewed up just like the glass, but at least it would resist devastating cracks.

First time I drove the CS to the office in several weeks. Boom, windshield crack from a rock.

I've driven my X2 for months with no issues whatsoever. Bad luck, I guess.

I'm going Safelite and requested new OEM glass. I'll probably tell the installer I'll give him a nice tip to make sure he takes his time on the install.

I also have PPF on the roof, so I'll make sure they are careful around that.

I think it's good to let them know about the ppf. I think my ppf may have adhered slightly to the weatherstrip. I still haven't replaced the current windshield with damage. I'm going to accrue a little more damage before replacing.

My windshield took a hit today.

I'll be contacting the dealer in the morning to check on the availability of the glass and see how comfortable I am with them doing the exchange based on the carbon roof and PPF. Then I can set up having the ceramic coating on the glass done after. I may inquire with the Porsche dealer as well to see who they use.
