BMW n55 new pure turbos (pure 500 and pure 750)

So some exciting news for us n55 guys, pure turbos just launched their new pure 500 and pure 750. Both options appear to be custom housing and chra so no need for a core exchange. I do hope they use good chra's so there are no reliability issues though.

1) pure 500: https://www.pureturbos.com/product/bmw-n55-pure500/

This is a reworked pure stage 1 turbo, and the great new update is finally a custom gt28 style turbine has been added. No more clipped turbines to get better flow, but rather an actual turbine upgrade. This should allow for much better exhaust flow (that clipped turbines like the ps1 and tte460 have), but not lose low end spool due to loss of surface area from clipping.

So this technically could/should be the best performing stage 1 turbo upgrade for the n55, and perfect for track guys who need the response. Unfortunately so far there isn't any data at all - the current dyno plots on pure's website are of the ps1 not this new pure 500. So the actual power output is tbd.

2) pure 750: https://www.pureturbos.com/product/bmw-n55-pure-750/

This is the big power turbo with a custom exhaust manifold and larger compressor and exhaust turbine. This should be capable of pushing deep into the 600 whp range, but again no data has been published.

The manifold does look very similar to the vtt one, which looks similar to the frakenturbo stuff (which was the first one on the market with this design manifold iirc). So it should compete against these offerings.

When you upgrade your turbo I assume you need to swap out the fuel pump?

It depends on your map.

A fueling upgrade is likely needed if you add more power than stock.

For a stage 1 upgrade it's not mandatory but beneficial.

the price is far and away better than what I've seen out there and all without having to provide the core. Am I missing something here?

Will the 750 connect up with stock size downpipe and turbo inlet?

I have no idea, but I would assume so since it appears to be a stock location turbo that is meant to be pnp.

It would be great to see a dyno graph on the 750, but I think the ps2 would be enough for a stock engine and max reliability
750 would be good for built engines and maybe closed-deck

This looks like a promising option for folks that don’t want PS2 spool characteristics but want more than what the Carbahn/Dinan option delivers.

The TTE460 for US customers is a big pill to swallow so this is pretty exiting for the track crowd targeting 450-470whp.

Right. Just a lot of the bigger turbos require special turbo inlets and downpipes due to the size increase. I've been fighting going to a catless downpipe, so this sounds like it may be a solid option if I can use my existing DP.

Yup I understand. But those bigger turbos weren't designed to be a stock drop in replacement, those bigger turbos generally also require water pump relocations, custom piping, custom oil and coolant hoses. This style turbo is meant to be a stock location drop in, and reuse all the stock parts like the EWG and diverter valve as well. It should also reuse the inlet and downpipe too.

Somebody get a deal from Mike on the Pure 500, and dyno it.

I got a really good deal on my slightly used TTE460 that makes 480whp to redline on the Stg 2+ Multimap and E50.

That Pure 500 should get close at a much lower price than a new TTE460.

I’ll be working to do just this in ‘23. Afraid it’ll have to wait a bit though. Dorch Stage 2, Pure500, and a call to Bend Cal is the plan.

Will be running it on both 93 and 100octane Sunoco GT260. Ethanol is around but it’s super inconveniently located and the 100oct GT260 is in the paddock. Don’t want the added expense of the Flex Fuel setup.

Correct. From what I have seen the PS2 spools about the same as the 750. Here is a dynograph of a PS2 on an E30 blend:

Looks like the Pure750 is going to be my next mod. I've been waiting patiently for a 100% bolt on turbo capable of 600whp without an excessive amount of turbo lag. This seems to fit the bill nicely.

Check out the franken turbo f55 as well, it might be significantly cheaper.

Yeah, been following. But I've heard mixed reviews about Shuenk.

Im a big fan of Pure Turbos; their kits are the most reliable in my opinion.
